If you're not familiar with Hank Williams III, then well... the name should explain it all! He's the grandson of Hank Williams and the son of Hank Williams, Jr. The similarity of his voice to that of his grandfather's is uncanny and to get a good idea of what his music is like, just imagine Hank Williams, Sr. singing over rowdy Country music about drugs, booze, Satan, and women! There is absolutely no resemblance whatsoever of his estranged father and if you're a Hank Jr. fan, you may be in for a disappointment with this type of music. But then again, I am neither a Hank Jr. fan OR a Country music fan, so take what I say with a grain of salt. This is a very unusual album. Most reviewers seem to like it very much. I think Hank Williams III is a very talented musician, who could do great things if he wanted to. I think this album is basically a mess. While it has flashes of brillance, it is basically one long self-parody. It takes every country cliche, and beats it into the ground. Superfically, the words are all about drinking and drugging and bad love. Since this is Hank Williams III, however, all of these subjects have covered over and over, and with far more brillance by both his grandfather and his father. Hank III's primary contribution seems to be unending defiance of ordinary country. His most heartfelt songs are profanity-laden rants directed at Nashvile for its lack of authenticity. Before purchasing this record, please be aware that this is a "sanitized" version of the real record. For purists, this would be akin to throwing a loincloth over Michelangelo's David. Those whose delicate sensibilities would be offended by the real record wouldn't like Hank anyway. So why bother? Pass on this adulturated disc and get the real one. Five stars for Hank, only one for the sanitized version for adulturating the original masterpiece.

this is as good as it gets in the country biz, i like the darker stuff like hank iii, and those poor bastards, which is how i found this cd, both of those bands are on this album. its been a very long time since ive heard a country album this solid.
