I really enjoyed listening to this cd. His voice is very soothing and easy to listen to. I especially enjoy listening to "Last Morning of my Life". It includes songs made famous by others such as"Back on my Feet" and "Young Girl". I have his other cd which features music from various operas. I would say you won't be sorry that you bought this cd!!!!!!

Thanks to Bach for this creation. Thanks to Director, Orchestra and Vocalists for the execution. Thanks to Internet and Amazon to allow me to find back this release I was hit from listening my father's vinil just 25 year ago.

This is an interesting collection of period pieces played on period instruments--even the piano used was built in New York in 1823. I say interesting because I enjoy music played on historically tempered instruments. That quality, combined with some primitive construction, can result in crazy cacophonies in ensemble performances. Some of that is evident here, but if you know about it it doesn't jar you too much. To most folks it would sometimes sound slightly out of tune or even "wrong." I dug it.

I must take exception to two items on the menu. First, "Alknomook (Death Song of the Cherokee Indians)". It's just so preposterous that I don't know what to say... it's like... it's like... Andy Williams singing a gangsta rap number. There is nothing remotely Cherokee about that melody AT ALL. Look, there's ... Read More

This enterprising disc brings together the 4 song cycles of Swiss composer Frank Martin's maturity (his only early one, the lovely Quatre Sonnets a Cassandre [1921], is on ASV CD DCA 1010). Though short on time (48'), this CD is long on substance & enjoyment: every song shows Martin's melodic & harmonic gifts at their peak, as well as his unsurpassed sensitivity to words - French & German, both modern & Medieval. The well-known 6 Monologues from Hugo von Hofmannsthal's play "Jedermann" ("Everyman"), heard here in their original piano version, ranks among the most spiritually profound of 20th century cycles. The 2 sets of songs for soprano, the 3 Love Songs on texts of the troubadors & the familiar 3 Christmas Songs, are both delightful, & show the enriching influence of folk music. Extraordinary ...
