I bought this four years ago when it was first released and didn't like it. I only listened to it once back then - I think I was expecting another Eden or La Luna. I put this cd in my player last month and fell in love with it. This is my favorite Sarah Brightman cd. I actually love it more than Eden and La Luna (both were extremely good). I own all of her cds, but this one is her best. My favorite tracks are 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14. Sarah's voice is so beautiful - she's extremely talented. I'm going to add the DVD to my wish list.

What's not to like about a good song from a good movie? All the classic movie themes (i.e., Titanic, Zorba the Greek, etc.) are here but played by a full orchestra. I considered this approach to modern music a true and distinct pleasure and a nice break from the classical music that Andre Rieu's orchestra normally presents. The music is uplifting and makes you want to break out in song or get up and dance. Nice background music for a long auto trip. Fun for the family to sing along with. Also a great album for just 'having on' in the house while you do other things. Good also for background music (at a lower volume) when entertaining. I am a fan of Andre Rieu and absolutely adore how he has brought the sound of a full orchestra to today's modern songs. ... Read More

A wonderful collection of Hollywood musical moments that you will enjoy over and over again. The recordings are crisp and clear. This 2 disc set will have you running to rent these classic movies. Kelly, Astaire, Garland, Crosby, Keel and many others were one-of-a-kind talents . What a great way to remember them.

I remember walking into Marx's Radio & Appliance Store in Millburn, N.J. in 1953 and hearing this album, the track where you here Drake in the middle of Arabs chanting was playing. Wow! I was bowled over, stood in my tracks, and listened. It went on and on. All of the music was such a knock-out for those times. Never in Broadway's history had there been such glorious orchestrations and vocal artistry. Drake, Morrow, Deiner, Hackett, and the big sound of Henry Calvin. I was 17 at the time and determined to see this show. I had no problem getting a single ticket for the orchestra for $6.50! The show delivered beautifully. Everyone seemed to be having a good time on stage. You will enjoy hearing Henry Calvin, who himself was having fun singing "Was I Wazir," with those clever lyrics. ... Read More

Of course there should have been much more. I remember there been a Metropolian Opera series called CAST ALBUMS- 100 YEARS that was put out for a limited time only and had like five volumes. As Peter Filichia noted they left out SHE LOVES ME, BRIGADOON and SWEENEY TODD. Also nothing from PACIFIC OVERTURES, BIG RIVER, CHESS, CRAZY FOR YOU, JEKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL, FOOTLOOSE- THE MUSICAL, THE FULL MONTY, URINTOWN... But they couldn't have put it all. I would have done without Lee Remick's "Anyone Can Whistle", because the show was a flop. I guess because it was Sondheim's first "serious" show...

My grandma introduced me to Mario back about 20 years ago when we watched The Great Caruso. Since I have always loved Mario! But when I bought this CD this winter after watching Singing to the Gods on OPB that was it! I was lost and I have been obsessed ever since! Now I have many CDs of Mario after buying this CD. Even my daughter who is 12 loves it! Her friends listen to it too! He was the greatest Tenor! You will be so happy you bought this. It is a great CD. I do have to say I do not care for the album cover. Mario was so handsome they did not need to make him up so much. He was always handsome just the way he was.

Sarah Brightman has developed her talent for singing in a grand way. Her video performance is equally great. She will never probably have any idea how many nights she has sung me to sleep ;). I look for a performance and a live concert to come near me soon. I would like to see her, however, embrace the more artistic and less of the skimpy clothing side. There is a delicate line between flash, art, and trash, and some footage and photos of her cross the line with me. Nude and semi-nude do not mix with song and expression. Sorry, dear, my beloved Sarah, but I am only in this for your singing talent, not to be made to long for your bod in my arms. Keep it cleaner. Skimpy or revealing clothing, photos, and videos does not enhance your talent. ... Read More

At my request I stood at the back of the church aisle holding my father's arm before the bridal procession began and my groom listened from the groom's room to the side of the altar, as my friend sang from the altar our wedding song, "This is My Beloved." We bought this CD because we wanted a crisp copy to play at our anniversary gathering. This time our adult children, grandchildren, wedding party and dearest friends stood with us. To the day it was exactly 50 years since our wedding day. It still brings chills and tenderness and expresses so well our deep love for one another.

"Opera Babes" gives you a nice visual image of at least two attractive women with some association with opera. Since this is an audio disk, that's basically all you have for a visual, unless you are odd and wish to stare obsessively at the disc jacket. But the sound -- oh, the sound is quintessentially feminine, seductive, alluring, and yes, operatic. If you find yourself carried away by passionate singing, this album is marvelous.
