This lady has one great voice. She can certainly sell a song. My only reservation about her is that she's a bit cocky. I think she could use some humility.

Music : Operas of Gilbert and Sullivan
Between 1949 and 1951, the D'Oyly Carte Company was very busy recording nine of the Gilbert & Sullivan works onto mono LPs for the Decca label (or the London, as it was known over here), with comic lead Martyn Green in all but "Trial By Jury." After he left the company, Green was supplanted by Peter Pratt, who recorded the comic lead roles in "The Sorcerer" and "Princess Ida." All of these have waited a long time to appear on CDs and several companies have taken advantage of the copyright lapse to issue them at very high prices and at least one at very budget ones.

But now I find that all of the 1949-1951 sets are available on the Avid Entertainment label as a boxed set of 10 discs (AMSC 780-789). To keep things compact, the Avid people unavoidably had to place on ... Read More

I was expecting much more, this album has nothing to do operatic pop honestly. The first song solvejg's song is ok, but other than that nothing to do with operatic pop..think two time if you decide to buy.

Twenty pieces from as many composers or nearly (two author repeats) from baroque times to modern times, from Italy to the United States, though only from the Western world. The objective of this CD is to show the immense variety of the performer, his virtuosity, flexibility and adaptability. The second objective of this CD is to provide a showcase for the violin that is the real star of the show. But the CD has no real unity in its extreme variety, and it does not speak one language, not even that of the violin, because the violin is only the vocal cord of the composer's language and there is so little in common in the languages of Vivaldi and Gershwin, except the harmonics of the good modern classical violin, which is historically false. Yet the pieces chosen here are so well-known that we can ... Read More

I really enjoyed listening to this cd. His voice is very soothing and easy to listen to. I especially enjoy listening to "Last Morning of my Life". It includes songs made famous by others such as"Back on my Feet" and "Young Girl". I have his other cd which features music from various operas. I would say you won't be sorry that you bought this cd!!!!!!

6.Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out Of Balance (1983 Film) from: Island UK

Parodied more than once, derided, blessed, hailed as a wonder, and decried as a travesty, this (abbreviated) soundtrack is capable of generating fascination and annoyance, often simultaneously. The truth is that this isn't merely minimalism -- it's expressive minimalism, with some impressive nuances. Given the space to breathe, the music here is breathtaking!

7.Derus Simples from: Southport Records

Chicago-based composer/pianist George Flynn has created a work unified with the "Complex of Simples", small tonal units of great potential. In something like a "self-reflective Bell-curve" Flynn takes the tiny tritone through a fantastic journey of harmonic, rhythmic, and magnificent (yet often subliminal) counterpoint, utilizing the "middle - sostenuto - pedal", that which holds both played and unplayed notes, while a massive mid-section propells through enthralling virtuosic hurdles, gradually returning to the base-Simples, that pay wonderful homage to Mr. Derus and Mr. Sorabji, to whom the work is dedicated.

Pianist Geoffery D. Madge, a pioneer of the music of Sorabji and many others, makes a potent, empowering statement with his performance of this most complex of "Simples".

Good show, Ol' boy! The Valiant soundtrack is a bow to the spirit of the great war film soundtracks like Battle of Britain, The Great Escape, and A Bridge too Far. One can feel the heroics of the RAF - or the RHPS, The Royal Homing Pidgeon Service (yes, it DID exist!) - through this soundtrack. It even has the Band of the Royal Air Force playing the RHPS March! Even the villianous German Hawks have a great theme. A fine musical nod to the Britain's victory in World War II.
A must to your War Film Collection.

I have to agree with what the others have written here. TRINITY is a major addition to the contemporary piano literature. It is unlike anything else I have ever heard. The performance, by the composer, is superb. This work distubing and powerful. I look forward to Fredrik Ullen's forthcoming recording of the work for BIS.

Flynn's Trinity is one of those seminal places, pieces in art music that wants to know what you beleive?
Do you believe that the 20th Century has created a permanent "wound"?, a permanent transgression, not only this side of the Atlantic but universal,or can all "wounds" be healed?.
Trinity is suppose to transcend borders of every kind and situate itself within a timeless paradigm, all good art does this. We believe that certain aspects of social and political life have been altered irrevocably,Bill Gates and Mickey Mouse have won the revolution,we have new apartheids everyday, everyplace; walls now are being constructed, physical, digital and conceptual,Trinity can refer to old Utopias,of security for some;those of atomic power and the collapse of Communism the ones gone, the Welfare State was another Utopia and the second?, 9/11 ...
