This is a great CD. I haven't bought one of Emmy Lou's albums in quite some time, but this one is vintage Emmy Lou. (Sorry, Emmy Lou! The music is vintage, not you!)

This album has staying power, is a thinking-person's album, sounds great, has terrific lyrics, is well thought out, and basically makes everything else I listen to sound downright crappy. Buy it and listen the heck outta it. I listen to all genres of rock. There is simply nothing better than this album. BTW if you don't like country music, which I don't, you will still like this album.

This is a fine album . Every track is worth listening to, and some are truly magical.Ths is a mix of traditional Christmas songs in beautiful arrangements, alongside some less well known but very fine Country Christmas tunes.Christmas alb ums simply dont get any better.

"[T]he collection is more of a marketplace filler than a cohesive artistic statement." It's a collection of duets, entirely appropriate in that that's precisely what Ms. Harris does best: sing harmony with others, many of whom would be difficult to accompany (Dylan, for one). Not a cohesive artistic statement? Mr. McLeese's comment would be right at home with observations made by people coming out of a Bergman film and, lacking the good sense to shut up because they didn't get it, say things like, "The lawn functions quite well as a symbol of alienation, but it is perhaps a bit heavy-handed." Ignorance is tolerable, but when it become aggressive, it is at least annoying. --Michael Punches Duets

I have had an LP copy of this album since it came out, which was before CDs. I wore out two cassette tapes and then purchased two CDs of it. It was one of the first albums on which I found that I liked every song on it.

No doubt about it, Boulder To Birmingham is my favorite.

Not many have the staying power of Emmy Lou Harris. She is, quite simply, wonderful.

Some people are complaining about the duplication of songs on this cd and Linda Ronstadt's Feels Like Home cd. When these tracks were recorded, there were conflicts with schedules and an argument took place between Ms. Parton and Ms. Ronstadt (I remember reading an article that Dolly told the details). After the feud, the recordings were shelved and it looked very grim that this cd would ever be released. Ms. Ronstadt's company was pushing for a cd to release and since there didn't seem to be any hope of another Trio recording, she used the tracks of her and Ms. Harris (and in her linear notes on her cd, she thanks Ms. Harris for her loyalty because of the feud between her and Dolly.) They decided to record other singers for the 'Trio' affect, they recruited Alison Krauss (a frequent Dolly collabirator). Dolly ... Read More

I have so hard to try to listen to this album. I have carefully listened to it. I know many of you think this is a classic, and even her best album. I have now listened to it nine times, and it's 4½ stars but still not as good as "Pieces of the Sky" or "Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town". There's many great songs again: "Luxury Liner", "(You Never Can Tell) C'est la vie", and "When I Stop Dreaming" for example. Actually, all the songs are great, only "Tulsa Queen" sounds a little bit boring. If you like Emmylou's 70's albums, this is a must for you. Emmylou's voice is just perfect and very touching.
Stars: (You Never Can Tell) C'est la vie, Luxury Liner, You're Supposed to Be Feeling Good

I loved the movie and my basset hound sang along to a few of the tunes in the movie; however she (the basset) did not respond at all to the music from the sound track, and this was a little disappointing, but I liked it a great deal.
