Cyndi Lauper was an icon of 1980's MTV generation hooray of fake importance. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", written by Robert Hazard as a wry comment on sexual mores was uptossed upturned and confetti celebrated as an anthem for pre-adolecent girls wanting to wear colorful clothes and kinda rebel at the same time. Cyndi had much more in mind. She was in a recored band "Blue Angel" that sold nothing. She found herself in finding song writers that fit her fairy tale. A classic 1980's LP/Cass/CD "She's So Unusual" had 4 (Four !) hits "Girl's", the cover of Brains' punkish "Money Changes Everything", the Hooter's cover of the ballad, "Time After Time", and the winking smirk of female masturbation, "She Bop". Hard to believe it's been twenty five years since Cyndi Lauper burst onto the scene with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". Even harder to believe her career trajectory, especially considering another young singer who surfaced around that time(and was considered even more of a flash in the pan than Lauper) went on to become the most successful female artist of all time. Yep, while Madonna went on to basically conquer the pop world, Lauper(a far more gifted vocalist) went on to release so-so albums(uh A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, "I Drove All Night" and "Heading West" notwithstanding) and act in REALLY bad movies (VIBES anyone? I can't tell you how difficult it was not to write this review. I can't help myself...anybody, and I mean ANYBODY who came out of adolescence into adulthood with the help of these masterpiece 80's albums will understand, when this music came out there was something special about the encapsulated pressurized Reaganite era that was erupting from within. To hear the lesser songs lumped in here sounds like sacrilidge of the most heinous variety to my delicate nostalgic ears...Cyndi Lauper, at least on this one rock album, probably has no peer living or dead. Yes, Gen Y, the original 6-pack album was THAT good. No other album with the possible exception of Bruce Springsteen has ever instantly become a collection of #1 hits so quickly. This is a strong cd. The more you listen, the more it grows on you. I have been a HUGE fan of Cyndi since She's so Unusual hit the air. And go see her whenever I can in concert. One of my most favorite was her rock version of Walk on By she did in Biloxi - just before Katrina hit. It is actually one of my favorite covers and favorite Cyndi covers. Better than the original and even better than the cd/album version. I wish this would come out as a single. The mini cd with Walk on By versions don't even do it justice. Cyndi is awesome in concert, I guess you can't bottle that on a studio cd.

I've always loved Cyndi Lauper's version of What's Going On (produced by the brilliant Shep Pettibone). I have the Original, Club and Instrumental versions on CD and have been hunting for the elusive Long Version... until now. Or so I thought. The one on this CD, unfortunately, must have been transferred from a master track that is corrupted (kinda like a cassette with badly-wrinkled tape). As a result, when listening through headphones, the sound quality is very uneven. Quite disappointing, really.

Okay, she looks phenomenal on the cover, but I saw her in concert last year, and the years are creeping up on her. But this woman can ROCK like few men can! She is an incredible performer and entertainer, and has kept her unique voice through the years. You gotta love this girl. And this album is great!

I bought this CD and was sent another one, not this one. So becareful when buying this CD. But overall after buying this CD a second time, the album is great!

This is just a cut-down version of her 1998 "Merry Christmas....Have a Nice Life" album. No new tracks and it doesn't even all the tracks from the 1998 album. Don't get me wrong, the music is good, but do yourself a favor and get "...Have a Nice Life" - it's the better album. Cyndi Lauper's Christmas tracks are some of the best modern pop Christmas music I've listened to - a must have for the Christmas season.

What would you expect from a collection of old pop gems recorded again after several years, by using a defferent band base and instrumentation? So that's it. Except for the two new songs and for the 'new' sound on "She Bop" and the 'ska-ish' version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", there's not really much worth stuff. Good for fans - newcomers would prefer a Greatest Hits or the Essential Collection... Just good enough. 3.5 *

This CD and a DVD of the same available is essential to any collection. The more you listen the more you realize what a talent she was and what exceptional vocal and expressive skills she had. Also what an influence she as on others--my inference. This album and the DVD are a joy. I actually bought several for Christmas presents. My 20 year old daughter loves it and not because she pities her dad.
