This band completely lost focus since X&Y. All in all I feel that these songs would have worked fine as B-sides, and that they should be treated as such.

Life In Technicolor II: Part 1 IMO is better, all the freshness of part 1 is lost due to the horrible singing. It sounds patched and it doesn't flow well. The song tries hard to build up but never gets there.

Postcards From Far Away: This is OK for ENYA. Not much to say here

Glass Of Water; This is Viva la Vida (song) meets X&Y. It sounds weird, but after a few listens you get accustomed to it. I would say this is the highlight of this EP, but B-side material at most.

Rainy Day: Coldplay going techno. I really don't get this number. This is new in Coldplay's repertoir, and if this is the ... Read More

While it doesn't exactly transcend Parachutes, this is a very decent sophomore effort. Sure it's mopey; sure it's resigned. That's the whole point. The question then becomes, how well does it achieve its goal to mope you out? Well, as it turns out it's pretty damn effective in that department.

Most of the songs are mid-tempo, with lots of dynamic shifts and volume-tweaking. Coldplay have been criticized as being Radiohead Lite (for one thing) but that isn't really true. Coldplay is a lot more melodic than Radiohead; more conventionally "pretty." While that may sound like proof of the very charge, I think the comparison is made more for the quality and timbre of Chris Martin's voice. The similarity to Thom Yorke's voice is sometimes uncanny.

There are some problems, ... Read More

A worthy extension of Viva for Coldplay fans. A bright spot for me was to hear vocals overlayed to the "Life in Technicolor" track (part ii). . .but did we really need to hear Jay-Z rapping over (my favorite track) Lost!? The other material here is not earth shattering, but enjoyable. 4 stars moves to 3 for the Rush like mistake (roll the bones) of adding a train wreck into the middle of a great track. It's like listening to Bach and hearing Angus Young's guitar crunch jammed into the middle of the symphony.

Well, here's Coldplay's first release or you. It is quite enjoyable and has much in common with their first album in way of lyrical themes and overall sound. I find it a bit curious that none of these songs found their way onto CP's first record. They would have been better served and more appreciated there, but just as well. These are very good songs at a very fair price. So enjoy!
