I have numerous Christmas CDs but find myself listening to this one most often. Both groups are superb, both individually and when they sing together. Some of the carols are so beautiful they can bring you to tears.

I have known this version of Messiah since my early childhood in the 'sixty's. You need to remeberthis is Scripture set to music. In making this both Handel and those you hear on the recording have affirmed my belief in both beautiful music and Our Lord Jesus Christ. You experience both the spiritual and sublime here.Mr Ormandy with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir have brought the highest Praise and Glory ever known on Earth to God in this presentation. I am not am expert in the music of this, I am a consumer who is now 51 and blessed by it every time I hear it.

the mormon tabernacle choir and orchestra perform weel and sing xmas songs you won-t hears elsewhere but the addition of sissel as solist in some classic and typic nordic xmas carols make the product an absolue MUST try hearing "mitt hjærte alltid vanker" or the danish song celebrating the pureness of the snow and you will understand what i mean : what a VOICE she has !!![she makes fables even of gregorian songs ]

After listening to a representative sample, I would argue this set is a bargain at 3 times the price: Yes the recordings are much as Bach would have wanted them performed. Its as if you could enter a time capsule and arrive at the Thomaskirche just in time for the Sunday Mass. Most of the comments below about the sound or performance quality of this collection are due to this and not to production or recording standards which are high throughout. The 17 discs of organ works alone are more than worth the price of admission. As a whole they could possibly be the best collection available today at any price.
