All Shook Up is a lot of fun. The music can't be beat because it's all Elvis and the singing is super. This Broadway cast - all the ladies are great belters and Cheyenne Jackson as Chad has a big range. I can't wait to see the show.

Music : Schütz: Christmas Vespers / McCreesh, Gabrieli Consort and Players
First of all, I was enthralled by the singing and the organ sound: very rich and musical in every way. The congregational singing, specifically, is superb, and the CD is worth buying for everything that comes before and after the Christmas Historia.

The historia, though, is an edition that is disconcerting to me. Perhaps I have heard versions that are less "authentic" than this one, but there are enough differences between the McCreesh and other versions I have heard that I must assume others will be affected the same way.

This recording was made only a year before La Fenice's "Giovanni Gabrieli: In Festo Sanctissimae Trinitatis". Thus for one year it was probably the best CD of Gabrieli on the market. It's still an attractive performance, with some tracks that are luscious and a few that are lumpy. I'll try to explain why I prefer the sounds of La Fenice.

Like "In Festo S. Trinitatis", this performance is a composite of Gabrieli sonatas, toccatas, and Latin-texted motets, arranged as they might have been heard in the church of San Rocco in Venice, on the saint's feast day. This is surely the right concept for performing Gabrieli for modern listeners, combining solemn majesty with instrumental fireworks. Soloists Robert Harre-Jones, Robin Blaze, Donald Grieg, Charles Pott and others, familiar to Early Music ... Read More

Heaven forfend if there was some disaster and I had to flee my home suddenly, and couple only clutch a few Christmas CDs before going out the door - this would be the first one I would look for! When you look at the price of this disc you might think you are buying some really cheap collection culled from old, unwanted recordings by orchestras and choirs you've never heard of. This is not so. Rather, this CD contains some of the very best Christmas music from one of the world's leaders in classical music record production: the great Hyperion label from England. On this disc is one of the most beautiful recordings of In The Bleak Midwinter that I have ever heard. It's almost haunting. There's also some medieval songs that will become instant favorites, as well as a recording on an almost ancient organ. ... Read More

Music : Venetian Vespers (Monteverdi * Rigatti * Grandi * Cavalli) /Gabrieli Consort & Players * McCreesh
This really a fine recording. I bought my copy one sunny Saturday morning in Melbourne in around 1993. I saw it on the shelf and I got my wallet out. I was completely blown away by the music on this disc. Rigatti was a real discovery for me.

The use of high falsettists in the chorus and solos is particularly effective and gives us a real insight into the sounds of music in Venice in the early 17th century.

I cannot recommend this marvellous recording too highly, it is clearly one of the best made by the Gabrieli Consort, Choir & Players.

Great playing from the strings, cornetti and tromboni.

Test of a little meeting. When Antionio Vivaldi 1741 died in Vienna, he left a stately spiritual work. A large part of these compositions which were not sighted yet or still not authorized for the publication to this day was sighted only approx. 90 years ago in which one knows, the Vivaldi still had set many further spiritual works to music. The spiritual work contains a variety of compositions to Latin Messlyrics, Psalmlyrics, hymns, motets and the received Juditha Triumphanes. Robert King succeeds in an extremely colorful, vigorous and nevertheless deeply hearty religious account of the known works Vivaldis with this Complete Sacred Music . Conductor, choir, orchestra and soloists have taken the excellent sacrale music of the great master almost 13 hour music to the sounds on 11 CDs here, altogether. An absolute one must for every ... IS RUTTER'S MISSION TO BREAK WITH TRADITION WHEN HE DOES NOT INCLUDE FALSETTOS IN HIS LINE-UP? I CALL IT SEDITION!!!!
This recording is a celebration and an exploration, of some of the great wealth of choral music written for multiple choirs. For centuries composers have loved to make use of the spatial effects obtainable from placing two or more choirs antiphonally, and some of the most sumptuous and thrilling sounds in choral literature have resulted.

Polychoral music takes many forms. Common to most of them is the idea of sounds coming from different points in space.
There is no theoretical limit to the number of independent voice-parts that a composer can write for, though beyond a certain number the practical problems of co-ordination in performance and maintaining clarity of sound become unmanageable. ... Read More
