Music Has the Right to Children's flow isn't as strong as Geogaddi's, but the quality tracks are present. The most trip-hop apparent full-length album by the duo. Key tracks are: roygbiv, Aqaurius, and Happy Cycling.
A lot of interlude tracks detract from an otherwise solid album. Some of the interlude tracks are extremely enjoyable though, see: Kaini Industries and Smokes Quantity.

All Boards of Canada albums have the same affect on you. This is how it goes: you get the CD, listen to it and think some songs are awesome, some are pretty good and others are all right. Some time will go by and what you heard will start playing in your head and you won't be able to stop thinking of the music, you'll find yourself listening to the album over and over. This music has a way of planting itself then growing deep roots in your mind.

This is the only Boards of Canada album I actually bought when it was released. Although I already owned Geogaddi and Music Has The Right To Children, they were purchased after finding out about the duo (based from the northern coast of Scotland) on Amazon. Their music has an experimental, unique sound to it, beyond what most people would expect from electronic music. Electronic music has always been about experimenting with different sounds, and BOC has once again filled track after track of soundscapes that are eerie and beautiful.

The songs on the In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country EP were taken from the Geogaddi sessions, which yielded the dark, schizophrenic final product of said album. However, the songs on the Beautiful Place EP are slightly more listenable than the songs on Geogaddi, although they do have their fair share of unsettling details. The title track features a sample from a religious recruitment recording, and the second track's name is a play off of Branch Davidian leader Amos Poe Rodan (thanks for that info, Shawn). But these subtle hints of perversity do not hinder the aural beauty of this EP. All four songs are crafted simply wonderfully. As the first track, Kid For Today, suggests, listening to the disk is like taking a time machine in two different directions. All of the songs sound innocent in their underlying melodies, ... Nice, BoC style, interesting, neo-hippy, psychedelic, now I would wish they could overgrow their concept of having a beat that has some similarity to drums, esp. TRish sound we know for so long... and also quite classic slow clubbish beats...
Give us real ambient without the annoying beats... Provide rhythmic structures with other elements, not with electro drums - that would be something really new and exciting from them.
Anyway - ok album.
But there are many less known artists that more mature than BoC and would deserve even more recognition - like Keith Fullerton Whitman, Tim Hecker, Fennesz and many more.

One of those obvious releases requiring purchase only from the already-indoctrinated (provided you were not one of the rare individuals privileged to hear it when it was originally released). Despite the reasonable solidness of the EP, surely the somewhat original electronic pair can be better grasped on subsequent outings, in fact much of the material is retooled on their full length.

Boards of Canada's MHTRTC is perhaps one of electronic musics most overated albums- nonetheless it is still worthwhile. What really lets this album down is the percussion and beat which is soulless. The background odd chordal changes and blurry soundscapes are ruined by what at times seems like a rigid drum machine patch or sampled drum loop youve heard before. Its a shame as i do like the haunting quality of some of the melody's notes and childhood memories the music conjures up. I actually think Geogaddi is a much better album than this. And i still prefer Future Sound of London or Broadcast in the end. Id pick up Geogaddi instead but this is still a nice addition just not the holy grail so many have made it out to be.

I've always been annoyed that this CD did not include "XYZ" which was part of the originally recorded BoC Peel Sessions.
The "Olson" version is very cool.
