I saw the show in Chicago and loved it. They were selling this same CD in the lobby for $25. I'm glad I resisted and bought it on amazon instead. Great oldies with excellent sound quality.

It's a cute CD...I love the fact that they used the voices from the movie and not some other people like most animated Soundtracks do. I especially love that they put in the clips of the movie like where chicken little sang "We are the champions" but revised it to "I am the champion," and he only sang up to a certain part of the song. It's a good CD.

This is an amazing work of emotional, passionate, and very creative music. Its facinating melodies are very complex and its themes are powerful. This is a masterpiece of artful composition, but it is not a CD for those with frivolous tastes. It is very beautiful and involved music so if you dwell on the music of Hairspray or Grease, this is definately not an item for you, but if you really appriciate the true purpose of music then I am confident that you'll fall in love with Guettel's work!

Being of Irish descent this is the best collection of Irish music ever. I listen to this CD when I am working out -- it will get your feet moving no matter how you feel.

Like Old Hat's other compilations, this one is superb. The remastering is sufficiently clear and the liner notes are a joy to read. Know though that it highlights the use of the fiddle in African American music in the 1920's and 1930's. As the album cover states, the songs span the range from blues to jazz to jug band to even old time string band. Overall, it is a fascinating history lesson.

While one would be hard-pressed to call this a masterpiece, AMOUR is a charming, heart-felt piece which grows in impact as you revisit it. This recording is pretty darn close to perfect, with a masterly performance by the under-rated Malcolm Gets and an enchanting Melissa Errico. if you need a "taste" to convince you of this album, sample "Somebody", "My Special Time of Day" or the title number. The singing on each of these is gorgeous and the melody soars in a gentle, wistful, oh-so-Legrand kind of way. Some of the patter numbers are more derivative, with lyrics that strain to be witty (and some that are clearly meant to strain to be witty, which is what MAKES them witty). The supporting cast does the heavy lifting in these numbers, and are rewarded by each being handed a gem of a solo. My personal favorite is "The ... Read More

Erich Kunzel plays the Bond themes? What a great idea! In addition, there are a few more selections in the same vein, like the cops-n-robbers TV medley, music from The Untouchables, Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, etc.

Sometimes, you want to listen to the 007 music in instrumental only, and Kunzel and the Cincinatti Pops do a good job with the arrangements. But where are the rest of the songs? Missing are three of my all-time favorites, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker. I think the album would be better with 'more Bond, less other.' We certainly don't need TWO selections from Dick Tracy. And the theme from Darkman is stylistically quite similar to Dick Tracy; nothing is gained by playing both. Don't get me wrong; I like Danny Elfman (check out his "Beetlejuice" theme on Kunzel's 'Great Fantasy ... Read More

Music : Me and Juliet (1953 Original Broadway Cast)
ME AND JULIET was one of Rodgers and Hammerstein's least successful works, opening on Broadway in 1953 and running for only ten months, despite favourable reviews and a highly talented cast (led by Isabel Bigley, Joan McCracken and Bill Hayes).

The score for this show didn't yield as many hit tunes as did the previous (and later) Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, yet standouts would surely include "Marriage-Type Love" (recycled for the 1958 London production of "Cinderella"); and "That's the Way It Happens" (which later found a second life as part of the score for the 1996 Broadway re-working of "State Fair").

The cast of ME AND JULIET was led by Isabel Bigley, fresh from her acclaimed starring role of mission-doll Sarah Brown in the original cast of "Guys and Dolls". Playing her love interest was a fresh ... Read More
