It's a good day when this magazine arrives in the mail. My daughter is a vegetarian and I am a vegan and the recipes in this magazine are just right for us and so delicious. We haven't had a bad experience yet with any of the recipes.

Not only does bon appétit have some of the best food photos around, the overall coverage of foodie info is great. I love the clean simple design of the front cover, which has always pulled me in every month. The magazine also covers a range of foods I wouldn't normally look into. It helps me think of and plan great meals while keeping me in the know about all sorts of products and food services.

I'd also like to say that I ordered this magazine on July 5th and my first issue came today, July 17th. AMAZING.

I have been a Ruth Reichl fan since her days at the LA Times (and her three autobiographies are exceptionally written), but I do not understand what she has done with this magazine. My chief complaint is the number of pages of advertising vs. the number of pages of writing and recipes. After finishing an issue, I feel assaulted by multi-page adver-torials from wine companies, cruise ships, and anyone else willing to fork over big $$$ to convince me how environmentally responsible they are. I never come away excited about food or ingredients or culture or a new dinner idea. Bon Appetit, on the other hand, has modernized and stylized its page layout, coverage and relationship with the reader. Yes, they, too, have a ton of ad pages, but I can overlook them better when almost every page of content ... Read More

A wonderful magazine with lots of articles about food trends and how to lighten your recipes. The only downfall of course is all the advertisng. Some months I collect quite a few recipes others I toss aside with nothing special.

5.Sunset (1-year) from: Sunset Magazine

I like Sunset for it great West Coast gardening, travel and do-it-yourself home improvement and food sections. But after a year or two, the articles become redundant. I usually subscribe for a period, then drop the subscription of a couple of years. However, it is the best publication I am aware of for plants and landscaping in California and the Western U.S. Most national publications (Horticulture, Organic Gardening, have an Eastern bias, in my experience).

Note: The first magazine to come with the subscription will usually be one that's already been on the stands for two or three weeks. If you've already purchased it, contact customer service -- they'll extend the subscription to compensate.

6.Cook's Illustrated from: Boston Common Press

Not only does Cook's Illustrated provide you with amazing recipes (I have received numerous compliments on their Olive-Rosemary Bread) but also the background explanation as to how the testers created the recipes. This is extremely useful in helping you understand what ingredients perform what functions in different dishes so that if a dish doesn't strike a perfect chord with you the first time you make it, you know what to alter to customize it to your liking.

I recommend this magazine to everyone I know, cooks and non-cooks alike. You will NOT regret a subscription to Cook's Illustrated.

7.Clean Eating from: Canusa

I came across Clean Eating in a supermarket, I think. I bought the first ever issue and I subscribed shortly after. The positives:

*there are a range of recipes - both in terms of kinds of food and levels of cooking experience. One thing I usually dislike about "healthy eating" magazines is that they are too simplistic.

*the other articles are interested and relative.

*good product suggestions.

The cons:
*It's only a quarterly!

Seriously, thus far, that's the only thing I can find that is a negative.

If you're at all interested in healthy eating, or even just expanding your food horizons a little bit, check this out.

I think when I bought this it said not to expect first delivery until 2 or 3 months later. Actually, within 2 weeks of the order I received last months' issue and this month's issue. I am impressed! Although I'm sure they put 2 months to set expectations there surely must be some people who have to wait that long.

Excellent articles but I haven't been able to use any of the recipes. If you order this magazine be sure you just want to read what others are cooking.
