This was my favorite magazine when I was a kid, and now I've subscrubed for my three-year-old nephew who loves it as well. It doesn't look as though the content has changed much in the last twenty-five years, only the cover design is notably different, but they're still as good today as I remember from when I was a kid.
Each magazine features a different animal, and is packed with photos and illustrations showing different species, skeletal and muscular structure, and interesting facts. The pictures and illustrations are great for young kids, and the information educates older kids. I've seen them for sale at a lot of zoos individually. The page count is a bit low, but that's mostly because there are no advertisements. This is mostly a reference/educational magazine, it doesn't have ... Read More

What really makes DG a one-of-a-kind magazine is that over half of its content is written by the readers themselves. Each month the magazine travels to a new state and finds twelve girls that according to Catherine "...stand out as role models, girls with something interesting to say, girls who simply have that special spark...and we also try to get a diverse group in terms of size, ethnic background, and looks, so all girls will feel like they see girls just like themselves on our pages." Those girls then receive writing assignments that become the articles for the magazine.

I got a subscription for my neice's 4th birthday (she started reading early) and she reads it voraciously from cover to cover once its in the mail. She really likes it. Personally, I could do without the games that sends subliminal messages that the princess has to get to the prince to win and would rather they focus more on characters like Belle and Mulan, rather than Cinderella-types. Sorry, but in reality when you wish upon a star, you'll still get beat by people who didn't and instead worked hard to achieve their "wishes."

Why do these magazines sell so well? They have dreamy pop stars on posters, and gossip, passing off as facts. This publication does just that.
They may have one or two feature stories.
Music artist are a huge draw, though few things are ever said about them. Instead comes a repeat of their favorites, and dislikes. I have a ton of these publication. Each has their own little quirks, making them more appealing to certain individuals.
Things have changed since the earlier teen magazines which consisted of mainly pictures, and not all in color.
However, these magazines need to further rethink. These magazines continue to push girls into something they may not want to be. There are females out there who could careless about the beauty, makeup, and fashion tips.

Brio magazine is a christian girl's magazine for about 13-16 year olds, although it could be for as young as 8 or 9. Brio and Beyond is just the 'graduated' version, for 16-22 year olds. Being in the "brio" age group, I would highly reccomend Brio. It's the only magazine I am subscribed too, and I read it front to back the day it arrives in the mail. I really couldn't see a magazine more suitable for teen girls. It is perfect, and has a lot of fun suggestions to do with friends and siblings or yourself. one of my favorites was when they gave gace masks recipes, another one was Chai tea recipes. And that's just an example. They have short fiction stories, an 'ask susie' column, daily devotional, fashion, beauty, entertainment, and so much more! this would be perfect for a girl's christmas gift (that's ... Read More

I ordered this for Christmas for my neice as well as 2 magazines for my nephews, her brothers. They received their magazines within 6 weeks. She didn't receive the first one until May, the second arrived in September. She should have received every 2 months. I am looking for a different magazine for her for this year.
