Not to be confused with the New Yorker this is a very good magazine not only for New Yorkers but for all who want to know all that is happening in today's world.

I just finished looking through the December issue of Southern Living. I have either subscribed to, or bought from the newsstand, Southern Living magazine for nearly 25 years. The recent changes, however, have left me both uninspired and sad. The sleeker redesign was, according to SL's editor John Alex Floyd, Jr., to acknowledge the changing South (my paraphrase). Well, I'm a born and bred Southerner, and I thought SL was perfect the way it was. The new emphasis is now on being green, eating healthy, and decorating New York faux Southern style. These may be worthy issues, but why does my beloved Southern Living have to bear the burden? Where are the letters to the editor (we now get a letter FROM the editor - who cares?)? Since I always browse through it in the checkout aisle, I thought I'd commit for a year and subscribe. The first two issues haven't disappointed, with hidden gems in western towns and great backyard ideas.

I wanted to give this magazine subscription as a gift but was unable to order it with a gift card or gift notice. I had to call the recipient to tell him to be on the lookout for the magazine to start in 4 to 6 weeks. It would be nice if you offered a gift option with your magazine subscriptions.

I got a subscription for my neice's 4th birthday (she started reading early) and she reads it voraciously from cover to cover once its in the mail. She really likes it. Personally, I could do without the games that sends subliminal messages that the princess has to get to the prince to win and would rather they focus more on characters like Belle and Mulan, rather than Cinderella-types. Sorry, but in reality when you wish upon a star, you'll still get beat by people who didn't and instead worked hard to achieve their "wishes."

It's been over a month and nothing yet in the mail. I know it's a good magazine, but the waiting after paying so long ago is not...one other thing I've noticed when subscribing to these mags, they try to short you on the 'year' thing. If they truly think that because I paid October 10 (and haven't yet rec'd a copy by Nov 25) that Oct. is my renewal date... griff

If you're a political junkie, probably more left leaning, then the weekly edition of Washington Post hits the spot. This edition includes indepth reports, articles, and their opinion columns for the past 7-10 days of each issue. After living in Washington, D.C. for four years, I got spoiled with the every day and behind the scenes reporting conducted by the Washington Post. This weekly edition is second only to the daily editions. I think it's a better choice than buying the Sunday edition available across the country. And Amazon offers a great price.

As a native of the Midwest, I find living in Pennsylvania to be a little bit of an adjustment. Midwest Living keeps me informed of all the events should we travel that way (which we do fairly often), and I love the articles!
