This magazine is great for a person just starting out getting their license or an experienced one who flies for a living. I've enjoyed this magazine for years and find it is a great resource with various articles that cover a wide variety of topics in today's flying world! What is really good are the write ups regarding different flight schools as well as interviews with various people in the industry on subjects like safety, training and weather issues.

This magazine is an excellent source on aviation as well as space. It's focus is on aircraft and spacecraft (together with profiles of the men and women who piloted such vehicles). You will find details on a variety of aircraft going back to the first flights in aviation history all the way up to the present time. It also has excellent coverage of the history of the U.S.'s space program - again - both historical and prospective. I recommend this magazine to anyone interested in the history of aviation and space.

I have had this magazine for well over 20 years. It does a good job of reviewing new airplanes, however it concentrates on the high end planes, and gives a good, but small, coverage of the latest (month old) aviation news. It also gives some touchy feely articles on flying from the corporate, private, technical, and professional aspect.

I believe it is lacking in in-depth coverage of future systems, long term reviews of airplanes, and also, long term upgrades of older airplanes. When they do cover used airplanes, it is not in-depth like the new airplanes and they do not go into third party vendors for additional items as much as I would like.

Overall, it is a good magazine, not great. I would still recommend it for one year to see if you like it also.

One of the few magazines I will read cover to cover. Even those articles about civilian aircraft (I am a military aircraft enthusiast/author) I read with great interest. Many articles are about events/machines/people that I've never heard of but are fascinating to learn about. My only criticism is that it is not a monthly publication. It would be a great day indeed if the publishers decided to make it so. Either way, it is worth the money for a subscription.

I subscribed on Mar 3, 2006. It said 6 issues/12 months. Over a year has passed. I received 2 issues. Where are the other four?

This publication is in my opinion, the most comprehensive and up to date review of space technology, military and commercial aviation, and to a certain extent, general aviation I have ever read. I have been subscribing to this magazine for years, and would have no idea where to go to get the information they provide, should I ever stop subscribing. That, however, will never happen!

7.Kitplanes from: Belvoir Publications, Inc.

The first copy is not due or arrived as of yet. I have purchased Kitplanes on a number of occasions and have enjoyed it. I am considering building an experimental airplane from a kit in the near future so this magazine is the most appropriate while I'm deciding what kit to purchase.

8.Flying Models from: Carstens Publications Inc
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Magazines : Flying Models

I like to fly C/L planes (stunt, combat, and sport), R/C power airplanes, R/C gliders, and R/C helicopters. I also teach the kids at a local children's home to build and fly model planes and amateur rockets, and am an FAA licensed airplane and helicopter pilot.

In my opinion, Flying Models is the best overall model airplane magazine! It is the only one that covers all types of model planes. Model Aviation magazine is mostly R/C, and occasionally covers some C/L, but not enough. I subscribe to several model airplane magazines, but I enjoy Flying Models the most.

Aviation Safety, another fine monthly from Belvoir publications, focuses on a variety of safe piloting topics. Where NTSB Reporter dwells on meticulous post mortems, A.S. may cover an accident then spend a lot of text suggesting how you could develop the appropriate technique beyond the theory you learned from your CFI.

For example, most aviators are familiar with the "demonstrated crosswind component" in the pilot operating handbook. It's not a limiting factor, just what the plane was tested against. Aviation Safety might have an article explaining how to develop your piloting technique so if you were faced with a stronger crosswind, you could operate in a less forgiving zone of performance. (After practice, I employed this during a 30 knot crosswind at Billings, MT)

"Business and Commercial Aviation" (B/CA) is an excellent magazine covering all aspects of professional flying, with a heavy corporate aviation tilt. The magazine is full of valuable information on all subjects dealing with corporate aircraft and flight operations.

The magazine focuses on new aircraft, equipment reviews, and test flights. On a nearly monthly basis one of the staff writers goes on a demonstration flight in a new or modified type of corporate aircraft, although sometimes the reviews are of new avionics, etc. There is a strong emphasis on safety in "B/CA", with a monthly article on some aspect of flying that any operator can learn from, such as high density altitude flying, thunderstorm flying, or operation in icing conditions. The magazine also features news articles germane to the ... Read More
