This magazine isn't bad, it articles are usually well written and the photos are usually quite good. The problem I have with it is every issue seems identical to the one before it. You can only look at the newest and best M4 clone so many times before it becomes just the same old news.

Let's start with the positive aspects of this magazine, but I'll quickly follow with negative criticism.

A subscription is dirt-cheap.

There are a lot of pictures, most color and many decent but not what I would call professionally done. Several photos look like they were taken on the range with a point-n-shoot camera, which is disappointing for a professional publication, as the point is to make it look like something the average reader could not do on his own. The best photos are in the numerous advertisements.

_Handguns_ is a great magazine on the subject if the reader is pressed for time. The magazine spans about 75 pages an issue, which is pretty thin compared to other gun magazines, especially since this is a bimonthly publication. Articles are ... Read More

This is my favorite gun magazine. I've subscribed to guns and ammo, shooting times, rifle shooter, etc.
If you carry or are considering it, it is a wealth of info... real-life legal issues by Massad Ayoob, "I was there" experiences from those who carry, suggested training exercises, even body guard training and scenarios. Columnists respond to questions in letters to the editor.
There are also gun reviews, a section on holsters and new stuff on the gun market.
So, if you carry, or are interested in considering it, this is a great magazine.

It covers reviews and suggestions of various rifles of different calibers. Very informative for the rifle shooter in general and important features to look for when purchasing a rifle. It does not cover military rifles in great details which is nice but rifles that the general public would be interested in shooting at rifle ranges. I have just extended my subscription because I enjoyed the magazine.

This is a great magazine if you're interested in Southern culture. All of the articles are well written and cover a broad array of topics from hunting to cuisine to travel. Physically, the magazine is impressive as well. High quality paper, large pages and impressive photography are all positive characteristics of the magazine.

The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because it only includes 6 issues in a 12 month period.

Of the twelve or so gun magazines I either subscribe to or buy regularly (I subscribe to Shooting Times), Shooting Times ranks very high in my list. The single factor that sways my decision most of a gun magazine is if they print accuracy testing on the rifles they test. Without the accuracy testing, articles on new rifles are little more than a rehashing of the literature you would find on a manufacturers web site or in a product brochure. The accuracy testing gives one an idea if a rifle is worth owning and ponying up hard earned money for. Currently, some magazines have a big crush on AR's which is wearing thin; Shooting Times does not seem to. Lastly, all the pages in Shooting Times are color and glossy, which is very appreciated.

this past year i got myself a blade magazine subscription and liked the magazine enough to buy my dad a subscription this past father's day. other reviews mention that there are a lot of ads. there are some ads but i don't mind it so much being in the publishing business and knowing that's where the $ is made. that's probably how the publisher keeps the subscription affordable.

i think the magazine gives a good mix of knife knowledge and current issues surrounding the average knife collector/carrier. i'm also a lifetime nra member and receive the nra's america's 1st freedom magazine. i find blade to be a more diverse and enjoyable read.
