Art in America is an essential guide to art happening anywhere, not just in America; it is scholarly, prosaic and comrehensive. Even if you skip the sometimes overly-serious, jargon-heavy writing, as an image base source it is indispensable, especially if you don't live in New York. I save every issue.

It is a pleasure to read and you will come away from it each time learning something new that is worth remembering.

This magazine, Artforum International and Art in America are all higher on the amazon.com site than on their respective web sites. Super-natural coincidence, or profit-taking?

Beware ArtNews web price, too - in the magazine, they are charging 19.98 for 11 issues, but not on the web.

I subscribe to several art magazines and this includes both fine arts & art instruction. I find that the the quartet of Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Art of the West and Southwest Art all complement each other. I have had a subscription to Southwest Art for five plus years and I also give a gift subscription to an artist friend of mind. While the magazine does showcases the 'traditional' western art there is a wide variety of art to enjoy. The 'traditional' western art shown is of high quality and you will never be bored .It amazes me that once you leave the sanctimonious New York art world how many really good artists are out there using paint to create some beautiful and compelling works of art. I like the fact that the publisher ships in a recyclable bag which means that I stand ... Read More

Let's start with the positive aspects of this magazine, but I'll quickly follow with negative criticism.

A subscription is dirt-cheap.

There are a lot of pictures, most color and many decent but not what I would call professionally done. Several photos look like they were taken on the range with a point-n-shoot camera, which is disappointing for a professional publication, as the point is to make it look like something the average reader could not do on his own. The best photos are in the numerous advertisements.

_Handguns_ is a great magazine on the subject if the reader is pressed for time. The magazine spans about 75 pages an issue, which is pretty thin compared to other gun magazines, especially since this is a bimonthly publication. Articles are short and ... Read More

It is hard to decide where to start. I have been reading (and occasionaly writing for) Coin World for something over forty years. The main focus of CW is United States coins. Therefore it is less essential if you are interested in exclusively or primarily in world material or medals/tokens. Still you will find information on this type of material too.

This is a great magazine if you're interested in Southern culture. All of the articles are well written and cover a broad array of topics from hunting to cuisine to travel. Physically, the magazine is impressive as well. High quality paper, large pages and impressive photography are all positive characteristics of the magazine.

The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because it only includes 6 issues in a 12 month period.

Seems knowledgeable - great selection of different articles, fun to read and able to compare coin prices with different coin dealers. Just got my subscription two weeks ago and will read it during the next and will decide about renewal - so far, very enjoyable.
