Because I find the TV series Ghost Hunters a fascinating television series (I have purchased all of the DVSs), I subscribed to TAPS magazine, expecting the magazine to focus on the scientific investigation of ghosts and the paranormal topics relevant to the specific episodes of the TV series. Instead, I discovered that the magazine focused less on Ghost Hunters and more on a conglomeration of folklore and unrelated paranormal topics that had nothing to do with the program. I stopped the subscription after one year. I'll just stick to the DVDs. If I want information on other paranormal topics, I'll look them up for free on the internet.

Well worth the price. Like most people interested in history I am too busy to read even half the books that look interesting. Military History gives intelligent, but easy to digest articles on subjects that I may not otherwise get into. Each issue covers a variety of periods throughout history. Also, unlike some other magazines this one still uses the binding that lists the contents in brief for your perusal while on the bookshelf or in the slipcase.

"Foreign Affairs" presents a gold mine of articles about subjects that span the globe, printed in somewhat large type and easy on the eyes. It is published by the Council on Foreign Affairs, an independent national membership organization and nonpartisan center for scholars. In their words, "We hold that while keeping clear of mere vagaries, 'Foreign Affairs' can do more to inform American public opinion by a broad hospitality to divergent ideas than it can by identifying itself with one school." I really love this magazine. I read it cover to cover. I've read several magazines on various parts of the UK and many are very good, but I believe this is the one that I find myself reading completely. Highly recommended.

The writing in the Paris Review is probably unmatched elsewhere in a popularly available magazine. Other magazines and reviews sometimes have top quality pieces, maybe one or two excellent pieces in each issue, but I found that the high standards of quality in the Paris Review is very rarely matched. The Paris Review unlike most publications is systematically excellent. The fictional stories are interesting and seemingly unique. The poetry is vivid and compelling. The interviews and non-fiction pieces also are no less enticing, excellent and important. If you are interested in writing, in reading compelling fiction and non-fiction, or the creative arts generally, I strongly recommend this magazine.

6.America - National Catholic Weekly from: America Press Inc

America magazine is a Jesuit magazine with a liberal Catholic bent. The editors will often give heterodox dissenters room to disseminate their views. If that's your cup of tea, fine, but you have no reason to be a member of the Catholic Church if you can't follow the pope and bishops. Instead, look to the Episcopal church. I do not recommend this publication.

7.Evertons Genealogical Helper from: Everton Publishers

I have subscribed to Everton's forever and find it a valuable resource that I read and reread and keep on my bookshelf. Try one issue and you'll keep getting it. (Ignore that other review - they should delete it. How can you review something you haven't seen yet?)

Like most conservatives, I do not always agree with everything I come across in the American Conservative, but I generally find at least four or five articles to be pretty valuable. Basically, I love just about anything that Steve Sailer writes and he's the film critic there. Sailer also contributes full length articles as well. Jim Antle is also another one of my favorite writers, and, although he has moved on to The American Spectator, he remains a regular contributor. John Derbyshire is mostly found at NR but when his articles appear here they substantially elevate the worth of each issue. Derbyshire and Sailer are two of the most irreverent, politically incorrect, and brilliant writers in conservadom so any magazine that carries their stuff is one to be prized.
