After purchasing several timers at the local supermarket only to find out that they were defective (alarms didn't work), I ordered this one. At first I thought it too was defective, as no alarm went off, no matter which of the three settings a tried: alarm light, audible alarm and vibrating alarm. Voila! I was about to give up, go back to good old fashioned clock watching, and sometimes overcook something. Then I thought to check the batteries (two of them, AAA). The probes worked well for a pig roast. No problem with heat or other. However, the connection to the remote monitoring unit dropped the connection many, many times. It was easy to reconnect, but annoying.

I love this, except for cookies. Here in the Florida where the humidity is always high, there is a problem with cookies rising. I find that using this mat for cookies increases the problem and the cookies come out hard and flat.

Whirley-Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper I received my Whirley Popper last week, tried it out today, and I am VERY happy. The popcorn tastes just like it does at the movie theater or a carnival. The corn is light, fluffy, and crispy in contrast to the bagged microwave corn which is much less crunchy and stale-tasting, in my opinion. It is very easy to use and I only had a couple of kernels that were un-popped. Be sure to follow the directions EXACTLY which includes seasoning the Whirley Popper prior to first use and using a MEDIUM flame, not high. I use this thermometer for cheesemaking. It's accurate, and has a wide range. I can leave it hovering over a steamy pot and not worry about it getting moist. It's really light, so I use a piece of thin wire bent over the edge of the pot and wrapped around the thermometer, and it holds it in place. You can't beat the price for a thermometer this good. Just buy it already.

The 1 1/2 lb setting produced three distinct clumps of dough, the 2 lb fruit and nut setting failed to integrate either my chopped pecans or my raisins, leaving them strewn along the bottom of the bread, the whole wheat recipes from my trusted bread machine recipe books overwhelmed its paddles. I received one of these as a gift and loved it and used it every day (I am the only coffee drinker in the house). Then I bought some bulk coffee and ground it myself and tried that. It kept getting grinds out of the filter and into the water reservoir and I kept having to clean it. Finally after three months it just died. They sent me a new one (after $7 shipping and handling) and this one is doing the same thing. Now I am almost convinced it is a problem with the grind of the coffee itself (the instructions do not specify which to use). I used an auto drip grind but perhaps that is too fine. Before I was buying pre-ground coffee and had no trouble as long as I did not add more than the 2.5 Tablespoons that the instructions specify. I hoped the machine would make good rich coffee, but it cannot. It doesn't matter which Senseo coffeepod you use. The coffee is thin and weak. I will now try to find a product that allows me to get around having to use Senseo coffee pods. A drip coffee maker is so far ahead in making a good cup of quality that you cannot begin to imagine how disapointed you will be with Senseo. Just horrible.
