The composter I purchased from Gaiam arrived incomplete; in fact it was missing several pieces. I contacted the manufacturer of this unit and no one returned my call. I followed Gaiam's return intructions, which were fairly clear and which also cost me $35 FedEx to return. I have not received an exchange unit yet (which is what I requested). I did receive an email from Gaiam explaining that they received the composter in return and that a new one would be coming to me in December. Apparently they are out of them at this time (11/13/2008). I will update when this matter resolves. TP

fruit flies...no matter what I've done I've gotten fruit flies. I empty it into the compost pile every day,wash it, and still...fruit flies. Now the bucket lives outside the front door, and that works much better, but still, I wish there was a way to have it on my kitchen counter

I have one of these for carrying my lunch to work. Home-cooked food is better than store-bought any day of the week. The good: it won't pick up odors, you can bring two kinds of things to eat, you can throw it in the dishwasher, and I suspect you could even cook in it in a pinch. The bad: it's clearly not microwave-safe (only non-metallic glass really is), the handle on the top lid rusted a bit, neither the top nor the bottom units are spill-proof, and unless you put them in an insulated sack, your lunch is going to get cold. Still, it's oodles better than using plastic, and despite the surface rust, I expect it to last a good long time.

What a great product! Not a hard side but they do velcro together and stand up nicely! Customizeable label for whatever you are able to recycle in your area! Very good size if you do have weekly pick up. I keep them in the kitchen and take them to the recycling pick up bin outside for the weekly pick up. They save me a lot of steps and you are able to get a lot moved in each bag! I looked around for a large enough container to make it worth while but wasn't willing to spend up to $200 just to have recycleables in one area. This is a nice economical choice! Shipping was fast from this seller!
