This is a great tool for BBQing. You can watch the temp of two different kinds of meat at the same time. Very acurate and easy to use. Our food came out so tender and not charred, and we were inside watching TV!

I received this as a gift in late 2007. This product is a great concept, as I've been able to use it in a variety of applications: grilling, baking/roasting, and an outdoor smoker. Unfortunately, it stopped working after 4 uses. The temperature reading would be way off, like 178 degrees at room temperature, 59 degrees for an ice slurry (chipped ice/water; used to determine accuracy), etc. The Oregon Scientific website was difficult to navigate and find information about the product, but once I found information it recommended replacing the probe. This was a $10 cost + s/h. I shouldn't have to do this for a new product. It worked once, then the problems started again. The wiress remote failed to link when trying to use it the second time. I was able to use the remote sensor which connects to the smoker and meat fine. I have to send it back to the company to get a replacement under their 90 day warranty. I would use it again.

This actually worked well in the oven inside the house. But the first time it went outside to the gas BBQ it broke. I did not have the probe in any flames, it was in the chicken and the lid was closed to minimize flare-ups. If they would have advertised this for indoor oven only use, I may have said a nice thing or two about it. I'm not sure if I will try to go through the hassle of trying to find another probe (don't know if they sell them), the hassle of returning the unit, or the hassle of kicking myself whenever I see it in my kitchen wondering why I did not pay more attention to the negative reviews. Do not buy.

This was an excellent purchase for the money but you get what you pay for. It takes a while for the screen to display the temperature of the food. It has a cheep feel to it. If you have the money purchase and instant read food thermometer and a seperate fork. But again for the money it does what it is supposed to do, that is why I gave it 4 stars. it also does display in F and C. Every Griller should have a food thermometer, it helps immensly when trying to make sure poultry is safe to eat and so you don't overcook meat.

I had a cheap "instant" read thermometer that frustrated me because I continually got wrong readings - this caused me to over cook my dishes. This thermometer is a bit pricier, but it works, as opposed to the cheaper grocery store model. For that reason, it's actually cheaper since the thermometer I had didn't work and so was valueless even though I had paid (probably) six dollars for it. This one works, though it does take a minute or so to come to a steady reading. Be patient.

If you own a cheap grill as I do, knowing the temperature while cooking is always a mystery. This thermometer takes the guesswork out of grilling, allowing me to slow roast dry-rub chicken, pork and fish, and ribs. Although I didn't think it would work as well for steaks and burgers, it did show me that my grill temperature can reach 600+ degrees on high burner settings. So by turning the burners down a little, I have had less tendency to overcook. It does accumulate spatter during cooking as others have noted. By pushing it to the corner of the grill, I have minimized this. When it did need cleaning, I used a dab of olive oil on a dishcloth and it came off easily (just be sure to wipe any oil residue off before putting it back on the grill). This thermometer made my terrific Weber Smoker even better. Drill a 3/8" hole in the smoker's dome lid, mount the probe of the thermometer through the hole, and you are in business.

I have a wide, barrel style smoker grill. It now has a surface mounted thermometer on the front of the door at meat level on both the left and right sides, as well as the stock thermometer mounted on the top. I got this for more accurate measurement of the inside temperature right at the meat. It does it's job great, seems calibrated fine. The only issue I have is that it has discolored, but that is because of all the smoke etc. rolling around inside my grill, and not this things fault. I just keep wiping it every time I put it in. When it no longer becomes usable, which I doubt will be for a very long time, I will buy another.

Works well, reasonably fast. A little challenging to read if you have to stick it in flat foods (such as a hamburger patty). I'll probably get a 2nd thermometer with the readout parallel with the probe for flat foods.
