You get what you pay for with this one. It's incredibly slow at registering a temperature and the final "beep" is essentially inaudible. I'll give it to my daughter for her pretend doctor's kit.

I chose this thermometer for my 10-month old son. I never liked using a rectal thermometer for a number of reasons, and I figured if they use the ear therm in doctors' offices it has to be a good option. The name of the game seems to be getting the probe all the way in the ear canal, which for babies means pulling the outer ear back so that the middle ear (ear canal) is accessible. This can be a little tricky with one parent holding a squirmy baby, pulling on the ear, getting the therm in and then pressing the button to take the temp. I also generally take the temp twice to be sure I have an accurate reading. If it's way too low (in the 96-98 range) I know it's probably not positioned correctly, esp if I think he has a fever. I have used a few other products and they were junk but the Braun IRT4520 gets the job done. Light weight and easy to use and durable. I like the battery option using two AA's than others who have the small flat disk types. When it comes to my kids health I want to get the information quickly and comfortable as I can. I found that this thermoscan worked so well I bought two of them one for me and one as a gift.

I got this thermometer last week and I'm still not sure how I like it. It does do the beeping thing as stated but what I don't like is its easy to delete the last temperature reading. After it beeps that its done, it doesn't light up so I have to turn it on again to look at the temp. Then later, if I didn't write it down, I'm screwed because its now deleted since I had to turn it on to view it the first time. It seems to only hold the last temp until you turn it on again. Problem is....you have to turn it on to view it the first time! Also, as with all digital thermometers, I really don't like how its designed. I had ordered these lens caps for our Braun thermometer about a year ago. They did seem like a good deal, 300 caps for $27 + shipping. When I received them, I was disappointed a bit as they weren't as sturdy as the original 20 pack I got with the thermometer but the thought of saving money made me start using them. However, these function the same as the more expensive ones, in the sense that they are there to protect the lens of dirt and ear wax. In that, these have functioned exactly as the more expensive ones. I'm a bit surprise that we have gone thru almost the whole shipment in the past year but when the kids are small and the flu bug hits the whole family, I was glad that I saved money on these rather than go with the more expensive pieces. Do not waste your money on this themometer. The protective cover is very hard to put on, and after a couple of weeks it quit working completely. According to the themometer my grandkids had a temp of around 92 degrees, or less.......I had to go to the store and buy a new one, which I should have done first!
