I have the 1st AW1 with a tape player I bought around 1990. I have never had any reliability problems but I use it as a boom box. So 20 years is pretty good reliability. Beware Bose will not sell you any part if it goes bad. I wanted tape player belts and they refuse to sell it. This is so their repair centers can extort a labor charge for repair. So you are buying a $1000 almost disposable product. One time I called Mcintosh for a var diode and they sent it to me free of charge. Now that is service. Bose was more than willing to sell me a new discounted Wave rather than sell me $3 worth of rubber belts. Also, the 901 speaker surrounds rot out.

Six weeks after purchase of the product, the CD Changer component (Model C-707CHX) failed. Basically upon loading a CD, the changer would not play, nor would it open back up to remove the CD. Upon doing a Google search by the model number, I found that C-707CHX has a long history of this particular problem. Also since Amazon only provides a 30-day return policy, at 45-days I am forced to deal directly with OnkyoUSA for warranty service. Sadly their customer service was most notable only for its indifference. While I am attempting to coordinate warranty service with one of their authorized service centers, the results are still unknown.

I had one of these Boomboxes, but I gave it to my newphew before we moved to California. I'm wishing I would have kept it though, because I've never heard such sound come from such a relatively small piece of equipment. I've got a Boze Wave-System radio, and I feel the sound from the Coby Boombox is superior to what I'm getting from the Boze. One of the reasons, is that you can adjust the base reponse with the Coby, whereas with the Boze, that can't be done. If you're a "base freak", then you can thump all of the base you want out of this Boombox. "Boom" is the right word...

As long as you burn the disk correctly (or according to the directions provided along with item), this portable cd player works perfectly. I used it to play 40 tracks that I downloaded to play during my son's birth.

I was drawn to the sleek design and thought the price wasn't bad either. I bought it for my office where it doesn't get much use (until after business hours). I am constantly fighting with static and station reception and have had to hang the antenna wires all over everything for a clear signal. Now, at about 8 months, the CD player has completely stopped working. This unit no longer reads, recognizes or plays any CD's not matter what I do. So, now I own a nice looking, static playing radio that if you're not careful will trip you up in it's antenna wires.
