Just attach this drive to your network and figure out the IP address the drive is using (typically 192.168.0.x). Then in your web browser type in the IP address (mine is http:\\192.168.0.10) to access the built-in interface. It's easy from here. (The instructions tell you that you MUST load their software--not true.) Other than the pain of figuring out the above, the drive is adequate. I didn't check the speed before purchase--but it's OK for my small home network.

seems to be working out well, no complaints, i like that it does not need to have a seperate power source. they could however do a redesign to make the cable somehow a solid part of the drive, with the option of still being able to use another cable, i dunno, something like that might be nice. Overall, a good solid drive.

Loaded well, but just last week had a one year old Western Digital 500GB Pro Edition hard drive fail completely... so, we'll see how this one holds up, but I worry just a bit. Maybe I just got a bad one (500GB), or maybe WD just has so-so quality control..... time will tell. However, this one is nice and small, and I like the "no brick" USB only design... it fits nicely in my safety deposit box where I store it as a safe, safe backup for my 48,000 song iTunes library.

There's not a lot to say about a good hard drive. The Western Digital series is my personal favorite because of how quiet they are. I also don't notice a perceivable difference in speed between this and my Seagate drive of the same size - only that the Seagate is a dozen times louder. For people who don't realize it - this isn't actually a 160Gb drive - it's a 160 billion byte drive (a gigabyte is actually 1024^3 bytes - 1073741824 to be exact. So while the case says 160Gb, when it's in your computer, your computer will tell you that it's only 149 Gb. It's really kind of deceptive, but whatever.

I purchased two of these drives for installation in the Linksys NAS 200. The install was easy and the drives are really snappy in the NAS 200. No issues at all.

I had this unit a year and have never been satisfied. My goal was to have a common backup location for everyone on my LAN to share The unit always was very slow when reading or writing. More importantly recently I had one of the two hard drives fail . Should have been no problem since I was using RAID to mirror drives. WD did send out a replacement within a few days however after a lot of go arounds with WD tech support it turns out the second drive was also corrupted . I lost a tremendous amount of information I thought was totally secure. Very unreliabile. I would give this unit a zero (0) if I could . Do not rely on for data protection. Also this unit does not stream media files

I found this NAS drive to be adequate performance and overall a decent investment. The web inteface to configure the device is slow to access despite on a 1GB switch. The folders are renamed to CAPS. For example: Documents become DOCUMENTS afer completing the wizard. After configuring the drive, you can access it via UNC \\IPaddress\shareName. You DO NOT need to install Western Digital's MioNET to access the shares. The drive runs quite and has a small footprint.
