Don't like this product but I decided to keep it as I'm not sure what you expect for the price (cheap). I suppose the saying "you get what you pay for" fits here. I will make a better decision next time.

SO far these phones have worked fine. Not thrilled with the blue lighted areas because it does make reading the numbers hard but the calls sound clear. Have had trouble getting the spare handset to keep the same ring tone but will keep trying.

I recently purchased the 1856 and experienced the same problem the reviewer did as listed in the comment, "warning: when you mount it on the wall, the handset slides off". Solution: the small plastic piece (less than 1"x1") located just under the handset ear piece slips out. When you slip it out, there is a small hook on one end. Turn the plastic piece around, insert it back into the phone base, and your handset will stay securely in place, even mounted on the wall. The phone works great!

The Speakerphone worked reasonably well for the first month then started "clipping" and missing some of the words at all volume levels. The rest of the phone works as advertised but I guess there are not really good corded phones at any price.

I picked this phone because it was top-rated by Consumer Reports. The sound quality is very good and free of interference, as would be expected of a DECT 6.0 phone. In addition, the range seems considerably greater than my previous cordless phone. The buttons are easy to use, and the phone/base are compact. There are a few drawbacks to this unit. It is wall-mountable, but the back contains a bracket that tends to slide off during the mounting process. Moreover, the holes don't quite align with the standard pegs for mounting, so the base is a little precarious when mounted. A second problem is that there is no speed dialing. I bought this to replace another cordless phone that had outlived its expected timespan by about 5 years. This one is easy to use and the sound is great, as a matter of fact I find it almost too loud at the lowest volume setting. So far, so good.

I'm a serious techie - I don't NEED a phone that'll bond with my cell phones and let me make calls through them...a phone that'll let me assign a different [pre-loaded] picture or ringer for people in my phone book...a phone that glows and looks like the most modern remote the wife has ever seen with a beautiful color display, while having all the functionality I ask for in a digital cordless/answering machine. I don't need it, but I seriously crave it, so I bought it. I'm completely satisfied. If forced to come up with a complaint, it would be that the display in the base unit is a bit crooked - like it wasn't mounted correctly inside.
