HP has the best value for a multi ink cartdridge home use series. Lowest cost per page, easiest replacement, and most efficient. Notice the two holes in the cartridges, it recycles most of the ink from printer Maintenance, and cleaning and what not. You will find that yellow usually runs out the quickest, becuase if you are printing photos yellow is used the most for skin tones and sky backgrounds and many nature scenes. Don't be fooled by the photo value pack, this package is the way to go. The photo value pack is a set of "custom" cartridges meant to do the 150 sheets of included 4x6 paper. On average a standalone cartridge or one from this value pack does about 240 4x6 photos.

Setting up this printer was easy and it printed the test pages well, but, the software fought with other programs on my computer and slowed down my entire system. It took over 30 minutes to install it. Then once installed I could print from all of my programs except anything that had a word processor in it - even notepad. It would take from 2 to 8 minutes for my print menu to even come up. I also tried another HP printer the day before and had the same problems. I also want to mention that I was on the phone with tech support for 3 hours and completely uninstalled and reinstalled the software which made no difference. What can I say? Amazon has the best customer service ever. I bought the HP printer and test print it, I inserted the inks and use the photo paper comes with it to test print. It was way too slow. And I request a refund, I thought I'd lose money on the shipping and they will only issue partial refund. But, after I called the customer service and told them my situation, (opened item is not eligible for a full refund), they said they will pay for the shipping cost and issue full refund. I don't get or lose anything for the transaction, Base on the experence with amazon, I'd definately come back again.

Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 1:46 PM Buying ink cartridge one at a time was putting me into the poor house. Amazon.com sells a twin pack called "HP 02 Black Twin Pack Ink Cartridge with Vivera Ink." If your like me running out of ink. Buying a twin pack does two things. It saves me money and saves me from running out of ink during a print job. Thank Amazon.com

This cartridge produces beautiful photos, but don't expect to get much out of it if you plan on printing big projects. I am printing on A4 paper (7x11 inch photo) using premium photo paper in normal mode with approximately 80% coverage (there is some text on the photo). I only got 12 copies before the "low ink" alert came on. I just about had a fit. I have to print a total of 100 copies, so the cost just for ink is going to be over $170.00. Now I wish I had just ordered the prints instead of printing them myself. Bummer.

I had to replace an HP all in one printer and came across the J6480. I liked the features of the printer and it was a bit smaller than my old one. Hooking up the printer was simple, but the software is another issue. It took an hour to get through the installation (Windows XP) and everything worked well. I was able to scan, fax and print. What was not evident until the next day was I had a problem with printing any type of text document from Word and even notepad(other programs such as excel would print fine.) After hitting a print command it took up to 8 minutes for the print menu to come up then the document would finally print.
