I purchased this unit for a motorcycle trip last fall. The first time I tried to use it, it would not navigate roads for the route I downloaded. After hours on line and on the phone with Garmin, they decided the unit was faulty and requested I return my unit in exchange for another. Because it took weeks to get the new unit, I went back to my trusty paper map for my trip. I tried using it a second time this summer for another motorcycle trip, and after unlocking my new unit, going through all the required steps, etc., it would not accept downloads of maps. UNBELIEVABLE! Back to the paper map again. Simple GPS, good value for money for casual, no bells or whistles. WAAS has issue in software needs to be updated to version 2.5 I think, so be sure to buy a serial cable to update. Buy the garmin compatible it works and you save $30.

There aren't many choices for nautical chart software for the Garmin 76cx so I sprung for the Bluechart Americas package expecting it would cover at least a few of the 10,000 lakes up here in Minnesota. Well, they did manage to cover Superior and even Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake, but they missed a little something called the Mississippi River (at least the northern half) and the other 9,997 lakes. What's unbelievable is the unlock process. Holy cow! I can choose to unlock the Rainy Lake area for the $100+ I spent for this package but if I want Lake Superior it's another $100+!! Wow, I wasn't expecting that I would get all of the Caribbean or Lake Titicaca (Peru) for the initial price but I certainly expected they would include the only two lakes covered in Minnesota for the same price. I hardly ever used the GPS in my vehicle until I bought this, great addition, holds well and use it almost daily, no complaints, easy removal of GPS as well easy install, definatly worth the small investment

I like this idea. Now my Forerunner 305 can be used both on the bike and (with the wrist adaptor I also purchased) when I run. I bought three - one for the road-bike, one for the mountain bike, and one for the tri-bike. The Garmin can handle and records separate for all three bikes. I jury-rigged it so it sits on the stem and it works well - I crossed the "zippies" versus through the slots where you would normally mount it on the bar. I like it better on the stem. ONLY ONE CAUTION - if you do what I did and stem-mount it, make sure that the metal watch stems sit tight inside the end clips when you put it on the bike or you'll "launch" the garmin (like I did the first time I tried it) when you hit a bump in the road or a seam in the pavement. I wanted a basic, easy to use, GPS that would allow me to hike in the wilderness and easily find my way to and from various places without fear of getting lost; and to always find my way back to my campsite or car. I also wanted to be able to save locations I visited as well as locations on the topo map I had not visited yet but wanted to be directed to by the GPS. In addition, I wanted to take a reading "in the field" and be able to find that location on a topo map. This unit does all of this perfectly.
