Works well. I purchased this because I had some 32 year old B&W negatives from high school I wanted to scan. I posted a couple of them. You can scan up to 12 negatives at a time. There is a preview mode with zoom allowing picture selection before a full scan takes place. I've been scanning at 2400 dpi. Each scan takes about 1-2 minutes. I've been using the enclosed software, Photostudio, in conjunction with Polaroid Dust and Scratch Removal. Using both programs I can remove most of the dust and water spots. One con with Photostudio is that when running it in the background, after each negative is scanned, it puts itself back on top. Very annoying. Additionally it has a tendency to lock up when it finishes all the scans and your doing something else like web surfing. The end result is ... Read More

Everyone has a printer to convert digital information to paper but I'm constantly surprised how many people don't have a scanner to convert paper to digital information. This is a very inexpensive way to be able to do that. I like that the device gets its power from the USB connnection. It does a good job scanning. The software was pretty easy to learn well enough to do some basic scanning, cropping, etc.

I was trying to transfer all of my old slides to cd using one of those mirrored boxes and a digital camera. ( What a chore!) I ran across this gem in searching Amazon, and while it is definately not the cheapest, or most expensive, it is a great product. My old slides were in very bad condition due to age and lots of mildew, but this machine did an excellant job of cleaning them up. I transfered over 1600 pictures without any problems and it was simple to use. I was transfering pics within 10 minutes out of the box.

I like this scanner but had problems setting it up with Windows Vista. The box indicates that only one of the bundled software programs was Vista compatible, but the box is probably out of date, because I am now running all of the bundled software. It is very important that you 1) install the software 1st, 2) restart your computer, 3) plug the scanner in, 4) start the software. I tried starting the software without plugging the scanner first, and it gave an error message. I thought this was a Vista compatibility issue, but in fact I just didnt get the sequence of steps in the right order. There is no explanation of what the different programs are for, so it is confusing because there is a lot of overlap. A lot of trial and error involved. The main program Navigator EX from Canon is the best of the ... Read More

First off, I too had a smudge under the glass of mine. It was in the shape of the side of a palm and pinky finger, but without the fingerprint (like the person was wearing a glove). It is obvious in a scan with a very dark background only, otherwise not noticeable at all. Otherwise very clear glass. I had a Visoneer scanner that also had foggy glass (just generally foggy), so no big deal.

Now, I have a gripe about this scanner. The size of the glass is 9 x 12 inches, but the scans are only upto 8.5 x 11.7 inches. This creates problems when placing items on the glass and trying to ensure all actually will be scanned (doing a Preview will help). Also, the scanner cuts off between an eighth and quarter inch on the front and left sides of the glass. This can cut off decorative borders ... Read More

Few of the reviews posted here covered its document scanning capabilities, so it was with some trepidation that I ordered it since my primary use is for documents. And I can say that I am very pleased with the device. Software installation (Windows XP Pro) was a snap and operation is intuitive and easy. Other positives are (1) thin design, (2) optional upright position [takes up about 4" of desk space], (3) ability to scan multiple pages into one PDF file and (4) powered off of the USB connection on the computer. It's pretty fast for a personal scanner. Loading, scanning, and unloading a page take about 15-20 seconds. That is plenty fast enough for me. The quality of scanned doument at 300 dpi is fine. Even if I never use it to scan a single photo, I am very happy with it.
