I bought this receiver because of the impressive feature set and positive reviews. It is an attractive unit, and setup was very easy. The on-screen menus are very intuitive. As other reviews have mentioned, it does run very hot.

I really wanted to keep this unit, but there is definitely a buzz/hum issue when using the HDMI connections. When there is a low signal or no signal going to the surround speakers, there is a very audible tone that constantly feeds through the speakers. Higher volumes can drown it out, but if you are listening in a quiet environment, then hum will definitely distract you.

I have returned the unit for this reason.

This is one bad dude! The weight along should let the user know they just bought a top quality product. It handles all the current and even the newest audio formants. Set up is a breeze, just plug in the microphone and follow the on-screen instructions. The packaging from JRs was top notch as well. This unit is a little big, so make sure you take some measurement before you order. Also, it runs hot so youll want to make sure it has plenty of room so air can circulate (it has two fans as well) and keeping it away from toddlers is a must too; it could certain burn their skin. This is my first Onkyo, but it will not be my last! Absolutely the BEST bang for the buck out there

For recording purposes this is a fantastic unit. I am a writer and this is great for transcribing notes. It also comes in handy when I'm driving and need to record my thoughts and ideas. I prefer it to a microcassette recorder because this is an analog unit and analog is a much warmer sound than digital. Super easy to use, too.

I bought this receiver after a long research period and found this to be the best receiver for the money. I had considered a yamaha receiver (663or863) but the features on the onkyo had me sold. The onkyo had more HDMI inputs and was THX certified. The sound quality is great since I paired it up with the definitive technology Procinema 600. I recommend this receiver to anyone that wants a quality receiver for a good price.

Oh, boy!

Briefly, this item is just not worth your time or effort. It certainly isn't worth your money.

I bought this for only one reason: to take the audio from my computer and power my bookshelf speakers. I've been using an old (~25-year old!) unit and it finally died, leaving me looking for a replacement. This amp seemed to fill the bill, but I was completely wrong.

The sound is harsh and artificial (you may disagree--it's subjective), but my main complaint is that this unit has a "feature" that allows it to sense audio input automatically and to switch on (and off!) based on that input. According to the manual (just a pamphlet, actually) it's possible to deactivate the auto switching by placing a slide switch in the Manual position. Nope, not on my unit. That just ... Read More

I found the directions to set up receiver hard to understand and could not get the front center speaker and the rear speakers to work. After contacting Denon tech support and working with them for several hours, the decision was made that the unit needed to be exchanged or repaired. I sent the unit to Denon and at present I am waiting for it to be returned. I expect the unit to work when it is returned.

We were able to take this recorder on our vacation and use it in a church service where we recorded some music and a message. We were about four rows back and still got a very clear recording (of course not a professional grade) that we could use to learn the song and review the message. We have not used all the features, but what we have used have performed above our expectations and we look forward to continue to use it with confidence.

This replaced my older JVC receiver and the difference in sound and its quality is very satisfying. Clear sound can be heard at much lower volume levels than the JVC. In surround sound the quality is great, escpecially at this price. It has HDMI but this lower end model is only a run through, you need an optical cable for the sound which is very good. Can't go wrong with this receiver.

I love this thing.
The set up is not for the faint of heart if you are using it to it's potential.
You need a remote that is better than the one that comes with the unit if you want to use it for anything other than source switching and volume control. The remote that comes with the unit is not that freindly, the "screen" is crammed and working to hidden menus is a pain. There are 7 or eight devices on the screen. then hidden behind a device is another device. As an example; to play xm and use the Denon to conrol it you push the tuner button twice to get to the menu. At no time on the screen does it tell you that you are now controlling xm. You just have to know that the second push of the tuner button now controls xm.
Depending on your skill level and craziness (according to my wife) go with a logitech ... Read More
