Scanner is great. The reviews here are very accurate. However, be warned that many purchases I have made from Amazon direct (not their affiliates) has come with very little inner box padding or packing material. They shipped my scanner bouncing around inside a big box with no padding. It bounced around so much it tore 70% of the packing tape off the back of the outer box. Even if there is no visible damage to the scanner box (except the skuffs and small corner compressions) there is a very big danger of the scanner failing at any time due to the damage it may have sustained. Everytime I order an expensive or large item it arrives bouncing around inside a packing box with a ludicrous amount of padding that's 5% of what should be used. This scanner gives really amazing quality scans. I scanned an image of a wedding invitation (with ultra-spidery curly-Q type that was about 1/4 or less tall) and was able to blow up each letter to fill half my computer screen before I could even start to see the pixels. It was easy to instal and use, though it came with a few photo programs that I ended up installing before I realized I did not need them. Works quietly and quickly, and is very compatible with my Intel MacBook and Photoshop CS3. The only small complaint I have is that it is a bit larger than your average scanner; About 5" longer and it is at least 4" tall, so I did have to re-arrange my desk set-up. Overall, though, it was totally worth it!

Everyone has a printer to convert digital information to paper but I'm constantly surprised how many people don't have a scanner to convert paper to digital information. This is a very inexpensive way to be able to do that. I like that the device gets its power from the USB connnection. It does a good job scanning. The software was pretty easy to learn well enough to do some basic scanning, cropping, etc.

This product does a great scan, but the feeder is junk. It constantly jams and tries to feed multiple pages at once. Not recommended.

I was trying to transfer all of my old slides to cd using one of those mirrored boxes and a digital camera. ( What a chore!) I ran across this gem in searching Amazon, and while it is definately not the cheapest, or most expensive, it is a great product. My old slides were in very bad condition due to age and lots of mildew, but this machine did an excellant job of cleaning them up. I transfered over 1600 pictures without any problems and it was simple to use. I was transfering pics within 10 minutes out of the box.

We received the product on time. Installed software and hooked up scanner, no joy. Scanner would not feed the paper into it at all. Called Amazon.com and they sent a replacement right away. Have not hooked up replacement yet. I would not recommend buying this simply because you can get NO support from Pentax. Amazon. com has has been good, but Pentax support stinks.

I like this scanner but had problems setting it up with Windows Vista. The box indicates that only one of the bundled software programs was Vista compatible, but the box is probably out of date, because I am now running all of the bundled software. It is very important that you 1) install the software 1st, 2) restart your computer, 3) plug the scanner in, 4) start the software. I tried starting the software without plugging the scanner first, and it gave an error message. I thought this was a Vista compatibility issue, but in fact I just didnt get the sequence of steps in the right order. There is no explanation of what the different programs are for, so it is confusing because there is a lot of overlap. A lot of trial and error involved. The main program Navigator EX from Canon is the best of the bunch. ... Read More

So for the last 10 years I have accumulated files worth of paper with almost no hope of ever PDFing them. Along came Sam , another Mac person who recommended the Scan Snap. Well its a >$400 scanner so I refreined from its purchase. I get a 500 dollar refund recently and made the purchase from Amazon. Well its the best computer peripheral that I have ever purchased and in the last month have digitized a library of over 800 classic surgical papers. It works without any effort. It corrects paper orientation and the PDF's come out great. The speed is over 15 pages per minute and in color. I was expecting a great all-around portable scanner from the reviews but was somewhat disappointed. Scanner is bulky for a portable scanner. Two cables needed to power and connect to computer is a nuisance. Scan quality for text is not great. Pluses: Color scans are far better than text. Speed is good especially when plugged into AC power source. I figure that if you already have a bulky scanner that needs two lines (power and connection to PC) w mediocre scan quality for text, maybe a non portable scanner will be a better value. I have used the docketport 465 before it malfunctioned and got the scansnap instead. I'm sending the scansnap back for a new docketport instead.

I've been very pleased with the quality of the scanner itself. Just a couple of years ago I purchased a similar type portable scanner for over twice the price but was never happy with it. Documents would always get skewed going through the scanner due to a weak feed system. It is for this reason that I still give this scanner props in spite of what others have said. I think I would have been far more upset had I purchased NeatReceipts for the entire package and the promise of a system that is supposed to help me organize my documents and keep track of all my receipts with ease. I think the makers of this product had a good idea -- I only wish they would have put a little more research and testing into the software portion of the product.
