This movie is one that our teenagers like also. In this day and age that is hard to find. We like the fact that it does seem to be very real. Our oldest daughter asked about the movie when they were studing WWII Germany in World History. So I had borrowed this movie from my Mother. Once they saw it they decided that we had to own it as well.

I believe this movie should be mandatory viewing by all seniors in the high school system, to show them how cruel and meaningless war was and is. I enjoyed the movie when it was first released, I found it shocking, brutal and touching. I didn't really care for the character Schindler (I found him to be ruthless money grabber), but the characters revolving around him in the chaotic times of WWII was where I found the real depth of the movie.
If everyone of our children watch "Schindler's List" and walk away with a true feeling of how precious life is, then I think we can stand proud as parents, and feel as if we have taught them something that they can teach their own children in the future. That war is war, nothing more, nothing less. That war should be avoided at all costs, no matter what ... Read More

My grandmother first introduced me to this movie and I've owned a copy since it first came out on DVD. Based upon one of the best-written novels of all time, the film is outstanding in it's own right. Covering the war from the viewpoint of it's heroine, Scarlett O'Hara, 'Gone With the Wind' explores the effects of the war on a well-to-do Southern family and the plantation they live on, Tara. A wonderful character study, Scarlett and her romantic interest, Rhett Butler, do what they must to survive in trying times. The characters are not perfect, never sappy, and always mesmerizing. This is simply a film you should own - not rent - and share with your family and friends. Timeless, even if you normally do not enjoy vintage films!

This is the only movie about the epic battle of Midway which means that its the one that you'll have to watch to get any taste about this incredible pivotal turning point in the war in the Pacific. What can I say?

*You get some great performances from excellent actors like Henry Fonda.
*There's a melodramatic father and son plot between Heston and a young Edward Arnold over his Japanese girlfriend.
*Historical figures are played by up and coming or known actors.
*A documentary type feel for both the Japanese and American timelines which works to some extent.
*A pastiche of footage from other sources which the filmakers used to 'fill in the gaps' in the plot with an acceptable but sometimes inauthentic feel. You've seen this footage in other movies.

This is one of the greatest movies ever! It's about a Jewish fellow in pre-WWII Italy who falls in love with a rich Italian Christian noble. They get married and live happily as WWII erupts. Their little son Jozue grows up oblivious to the horrors of the day thanks to his wonderful parents. Jozue's father is an eternal optimist and displays an incredible love for live and optimism even as he and little Jozue are being deported to the concentration camp just before the arrival and liberation of the allies. His mother shows no less courage and love as she voluntarily steps on to the "death train" heading for the same camp as her husband and son. The film has a bitter sweet ending, but is an incredible production and a must see. If we feed this kind of productions to our children, there will be fewer drifters ... Read More

This film coming a few years later after "Braveheart" was one of the first films in which I saw the late Heath Ledger--and he was impressive to say the least. Mel Gibson plays a farmer who is an ex-guerilla fighter who is reluctant to take up arms against the British until a tragedy occurs in his family that forces him to take a stand. Critics of this film have liken this to a Mad Max film but his re-transformation back into the warrior mode is plausible. Of course, there are some dramatic licenses taken here since Gibson's character is a composite of many of the types of American heroes like Francis Marion aka "The Swamp Fox" and also depicted in Disney film years ago by I believe, Leslie Nielsen before he descended or risen into his famous comedy mode (The Naked Gun). The Blu-ray transfer of this extended version ... Read More

One of the better musicals and great Fosse choreography. Joel Grey is stupendous as the MC and his musical skits are great entertainment. Liza Minnelli is supreme as Sally Boles.
