This series is what I like to refer to as a 'Dime Bag' documentary. In true History Chanel format, this series foregos intellectual content beyond adolescent levels, opting instead to work in as much sensationalism as possible. For example, a chapter entitled "The Most Violent Places in the Universe", threatens repeatedly that Black Holes are "Out There.. Prowling the darkness". The series is packed with this kind of crap, and it seems the History Chanel would have you believe that something out there in the dark, scary, violent, universe holds some aganizing death with your name on it; Be it torn to shreds from 'Prowling' black holes, Crushed by a meteor, or violently engulfed by the sun, etc. Seemingly, many topics touch on the violent nature of your demise should you venture too close, ... I borrowed this film from my local library and was impressed -- the film goes through the history of the electric car and proceeds to tell the tragic story of GM's EV1, in the end convincing the viewer of the conspiracy by the oil companies to destroy the EV1, as it threatened their profits. I enjoyed the film so much that I decided to buy a copy of the DVD for my father & mother so that they could watch it.

This is a great series for a classroom. As a high school earth science teacher, I've seen A LOT of really bad documentaries, and this is one my students really enjoy. Great graphics, easy to follow, and a really diverse range of scientists. Matches my astronomy units well and fits perfectly into a single class period. And as one of my female students said to me "I love those videos, there are so many GIRL scientists in them!"

This movie opened my eyes to what I am really putting into my mouth. It also showed me that agriculture in this country is not on the right course and is contributing to the degredation of our nation, the world and the environment. Slightly misleading, however, is the fact that it is listed as "by Michael Pollan", which is is not... he is just a guest speaker of sorts. That was why I purchased the movie, and though feeling misled I still REALLY liked the movie. A must-see for everyone.

This DVD is the typical aquarium DVD except on blu-ray. I was not especially impressed. I've owned 4 now...still looking for a good one.

I immediately noticed an annoying buzz and pops on one of the sound tracks.

Though it is hi-def, the depth of field is very shallow so much of the image is out of focus.

It appears to be an amateur production. I'm returning this to Amazon.

It has three aquarium choices...and that is it for the options. No way to turn off the audio.

Why does every aquarium DVD producer think we want to hear this new age music along with the video? And why do they never show the whole aquarium? So you get fish going on and off the screen. I want a virtual high-def aquarium...which means aquarium sounds and a view of the entire aquarium ... Read More

A lot of factual in this comprehensive documentary which will arm every citizen who watches it against the lies being spewed by those who want to deceive Americans in order to gain their votes by fraud. Americans are being lulled into believing the lies that reliance on foreing oil will be reduced by any significant amount and that gas/oil prices will be reduced by offshore and arctic drilling - and Americans are desperate enough to believe such lies without question, without wanting to listen to the unappetizing truth that we use over 25% of the world's oil while we possess less than 4% of oil reserves. The mathematics show the truth, that drilling all the 5% total reserves would not even put a dent in our dependence on foreign oil nor prices, but the cynics know voters want hope even when a lie. The cynics know the reality and ... Read More
