This film was talk about town because it tackles the hot topic of teenage pregnancy. Juno is 16 year old girl, curious about sex, who after one time experiment with her schoolmate finds out she is pregnant. Juno is pretty, smart and has sarcastic sense of humor. Her mother and father are divorced and remarried to other people. While Juno lives with her father (somewhere in Midwest), her Mom has started her new family in Arizona and it is obvious that their relationship is distant and strained. Juno's family is a typical lower class family. Her father repairs heating and air conditioning, her stepmom is working as a nail technician while juggling her new family. But they are all detached from the fact that Juno is approaching age when talking about sex and educating her about it long past ... Read More

There have been dozens of movies made about breaking-up, whether it be from the woman's perspective or the man's. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" sets new high standards in that league of films, that portray break-up as a realistic event, and not some romantically overdone sequence of droopy love songs.

Peter Bretter is a musician for a TV series, and is also the reclusive boyfriend of the lead actress of the show - Sarah Marshall. Sarah gets all the attention and the limelight, while Peter is left out in the cold corner (holding her purse). The movie begins with the break-up. So that you know where the focus of the story lies - no meaningless context-setting or flashback sequences. Cut to the chase.

Peter realizes that he needs to get over Sarah, and so he decides to go to ... Read More

It's too bad that this fine action/themed film did not get it's due at the box office. Well directed by actor Peter Berg who also does a small cameo in this flick, the cast is well served by Oscar winners Jamie Fox & Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner (Alias) and Jason Bateman as FBI agents sent to the Middle East to investigate a bombing which took the lives of civilians, American and Arabs, alike by a terrorist group. The tension is high throughout and the transfer to HD is excellent. Fox more than makes up for his previous bummer, "Stealth", with this winner.

The Sweetest Thing

What a FUNNY movie!!!!!! Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate along with Jason Batemon are just too hilarious in this movie. The movie is so light and fun, and you just love watching the situations that these two friends find themselves in. The humor isn't slapstick, it's just true and well written.

This was such a good, bright, intriguing, magical movie. However I couldn't give it the full 5 stars for two reasons. First, it is terribly sad. I generally don't mind "bittersweet" movies, but this one just drug me too far down that even the joyful ending couldn't erase the sad feeling from earlier in the film. Mahoney's distress was just too real!

The second reason is the manner in which Magorium dies. I love that the movie somewhat "demystifies" death, reinforcing that a life well lived is not a cause for sadness but of celebration and honor. But the fact that they made his death so ordinarily human with the funeral and everyone lined up at his graveside dressed in black, really disappointed me. I was so hoping as they showed his feet on the night he "departed" that somehow they would just disappear as ... Read More

A pretty entertaining, thoughtful movie if you ignore the bouncy/fun art on the DVD box and forget the bouncy/fun marketing campaign when this movie hit theaters a couple of years back. This is not a romantic comedy but rather a drama with some comedy sprinkled in, or- at best- a 50/50 mix of drama and comedy. If you go in knowing that, you won't be put off (as I was until I got into the right groove) by all the intense, shadowy lighting and the intense, pain-laced arguments. Once you know what you're getting, you'll enjoy the well-crafted intensity and the handful of funny moments, too (Jon Favreau is a riot as Vince Vaughn's protective friend).

The extra features are pretty illuminating, too. That's where we learn that the film's tone was unambiguously intentional on the part of Vince Vaughn and director Peyton Reed, ... Read More

Teen Wolf and Teen Wolf Too are classic 1980's flicks. I adore the first one starring Michael J. Fox, he can pull any film off but jeez the sequel with Jason Bateman is horrible to the bone or should I say hair. Too bad the original was never released by itself on DVD, so I recommend just watching the first and disposing of the second. Have fun watching this silly but fun teen flick.
