FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE while being the second in the series to DR. NO is the first in which the James Bond popular culture came to know and love makes his appearance and is often considered the best of them all. Sean Connery plays Bond a bit different from the character on the pages of Ian Fleming spy novels as well as turning in an improved performance over his previous effort in DR. NO. Connery made a Bond better fit for the screen, giving the character more personality, more charisma and humor than Fleming's buttoned-up, bland English gentleman spy. As one co-producer of the Bond films says,"We always start out trying to make another FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and end up with another THUNDERBALL". Well, THUNDERBALL is just another good Sean Connery Bond action film while FROM RUSSIA.. is film ... Read More

This has a lot of memorable moments, even though the underwater sequences are overlong, but a good villain, great Bond girl, and of course Connery. See it.

I decided to rewatch Pierce Brosnan's Bond swan song once again to see if it was as bad as so many seem to think it is. I had much warmer memories of it myself. Unfortunately I must conclude that it really IS that bad--at least the second half. The compelling opening sequence features a vulnerable 007 being tortured by the North Korean army and even boasts a cane-seat chair, though it's not put to such sinister use as the one Daniel Craig sat on. I happen to like Madonna's driving-techno titular theme theme song as much as I like "You Know My Name", which is bunches. Halle Berry is lovely to look at, but as Jinx receives no assistance from a script that requires her to deliver lines like "Ornithologist, huh? Now there's a mouthful" while staring at 007's crotch. The thrust-and-parry of sexual ... Read More

Roger Moore's maiden voyage as James Bond -- and the third different actor in the role in three consequetive films -- is actually a fairly entertaining movie with the usual set pieces, babes, and Moore's laid back performance. Tom Mankowicz (who wrote for both Connery and Moore) had the best observation. In the scene where Moore enters the Fillet of Soul in Harlem, if you have Connery you know there is going to be a fight. Jane Seymour's big break, Yaphet Koto as Kananga/Mr. Big, Julius Harris as his henchman "T" and David Hedison in his first outing as Bond's CIA buddy Felix Leiter. The first 007 since DR. NO not to be scored by John Barry, the music is courtesy of Sir George Martin (who produced the Beatles records) with a title song (and an energetic one at that) by Paul McCartney and Wings. A pleasant ... Read More

I just watched this movie for the first time and didn't see the Moore films as they came out, so my opinion isn't colored by nostalgia or affection for Roger Moore. In fact, I had only started watching the classic Bond films a few years ago.

I've always been a bit lukewarm to Moore's portrayal of 007 as he seemed a bit overly formal and stiff when compared to the graceful yet rugged qualities of Sean Connery and more recently, Daniel Craig. However, most of the reviews from Bond fans I've read seemed to indicate that this film and the Spy Who Loved Me were the two best Moore films; with people citing FYEO as having the "back to basics" approach to the franchise with Ian Fleming style espionage at the forefront.

While it compares favorably to the rest of the Moore films, it's just lacking the ... Read More

I read Bob Lefleur's take on this set. He was there, in the real battle and we mere mortals can only imagine the Hell they went through during WWII. My dad and uncle were there. They had some very amusing stories about the great group of GI's they fought with, but some very grim details about the actual war. So, I want to thank Bob Lefleur and all the vet's that were there. Without them, things might be much different, in this world today. As for the Band of Brother's set? It is THE most realistic series about WWII ever produced. If you want to see how it really was, get this set, as it is awesome to watch.

The only reason this gets 2 stars is that First Blood is a decent movie. The other two are horrid examples of sequels gone bad. Putting them on BluRay is like putting lipstick on a pig.... No matter how red those lips get, it's still a pig.

I've been a a fan of the comic Hellboy for a long time and I enjoyed the first movie so I was set to really dig this one. I thought that Del Toro could do no wrong after HB 1 and Pandora's Box. How wrong I was. What we got was a "Evil" elf straight of of Lord of the Rings who was about as evil as and altar boy next to Rasputin in the first movie which manager to balance the darkness of H.P. Lovecraft with the levity of the comics (but not too much like HBII)

Overall, HBII was a mess and was matinee kiddy-fare with hardly a chill in sight except for the tooth fairy's who were still too bloody cute to be scary. Add to all this mess the comedy routine between Abe and HB and it was mostly a loss. I was bitterly disapointed after walking out of the theater.
