Chaplin is one of the greatest silent comedians/film makers only behind Buster Keaton and Roscoe Arbuckle (In my opinion.) If your looking for some Charles Chaplin films look no further this is by far the best quality out of all the other sets.

Most everything that needs to have been said has been except for the commentary track on the Black Camel which fails to make any mention of the beautiful hawaiian steel guitar music used in several points of the film which is devoid of music otherwise. I have heard that this contribution was from the greatest steel guitarist of them all who is Sol Hoopii. Sol was in big demand in Hollywood in the 20' and 30's as musical director, performer, actor, and as a talent scout for Hawaiian and polynesian themed movies. I marvel at the fact that the two male commentators were watching the complete movie and were not at all moved by the shear beauty of Sol's music to even make any comment about it. This wonderful re-mastered collection of four Charlie Chan Movies are some of Warner Oland's best performances. The DVD's themselves are quality copies of great mysteries that continue to be enjoyed without today's need to change everything offered within the realm of contemporary political-correctness,----they are simply enjoyable to watch time and again. We could not wait for this, and subsequent Charlie Chan collections to be offered; if you enjoy good mysteries, a great central character, and movies from the time of Hollywood's best era, then this collection will be for you.

Having purchased the first set of Chaplin films, we were excited to get this second collection. However, the storage box inside the shrink-wrap was so badly damaged, it was worthless for display and storage purposes. For a collection close to $100 in cost, we wanted the box, to keep the films together and to accompany the first boxed set on our shelf. We reordered twice from Amazon and found the same crunched and punctured box each time. A subsequent purchase via a major chain bookstore yielded the same result, causing this Chaplin-loving family to sit back and wait until the manufacturer wises up and takes better care with the next batch.

City Lights directed by Charlie Chaplin and also stars in is such a cute and timeless silent film classic. In College, I took a film class and our professor said to watch one silent film so I chose City Lights not knowing what to expect. To my utter delight, I fell head over heels in love with this film, the music, pace, and physical comedy is 100% charming. Charlie Chaplin will captivate your heart, I highly recommend it! Enjoy.

For the money you CAN'T go wrong with this set. My interest in seeing some of Chaplin's original work came after finally seeing the film "Chaplin" based on his life starring Robert Downey Jr. What an amazing man and an extraordinary life! This collection of films is very good quality, though not perfect to be sure. The music can be a bit repetitive at times as it is not what originally played during the showing of these pictures, but all-in-all it is a fantastic set for someone like myself who, although I knew who Carlie Chaplin was, had never seen even ONE of his films before. You will truly enjoy this set if you are seeking a large quantity of Chaplin films in one set at a very reasonable price and I see it as a starter set to springboard from if you feel the desire to begin building a Chaplin film collection.

"Modern Times" is one of Charlie Chaplin's most memorable films. In this movie, the Tramp joins the ranks of the unemployed, and eventually teams up with a poor girl (Paulette Goddard) who's trying to make her way in the world. Like all Chaplin films, "Modern Times" features numerous slapstick routines that are just as funny today as they were 80 years ago when this film was made. This is one of the first Chaplin films that uses recorded sound effects and even some spoken dialogue in the form of a nonsense song, which was Chaplin's way of lashing out at talking motion pictures. Chaplin also composed the score to this movie, which includes "Smile," one of Chaplin's most famous songs. This is a truly fantastic film that people will continue to enjoy for many years to come.

Made at the height of the German Expressionist movement, Caligari is a true classic and a magnificent gem. As a silent film fanatic, this film is on par with other greats such as Nosferatu and the REAL Phantom Of The Opera with Lon Chaney. Kino has done a great restoration job on this piece and I highly recommend this version over many other low-budget restorations I've seen over the years.

I first saw this in a film class I took at USC during my undergrad. Could not remember the name of it but I finally found it. I love this movie because its as inexplicable as people's dreams. Your (or at least my) dreams are often strewn bits of random images that somehow make sense while you are dreaming, that give an overall feeling of what's happening, but try to explain it in once you wake up and one can find themselves at a loss for words. But Dali knew exactly how to visually tell the story of something as random as our dreams.
