A waste of 2 hours no real plot and can't believe it won or was nominated for anything. If someone does like it I am happy for you but I would rather watch paint dry.

Forget your stereotypes of Iranians. `Persepolis' is an engagingly funny, sad, and poignant look at Merjane (Margie) (Chiara Mastrorianni) a girl who grows up in Tehran during the 1980's. Despite our possible preconceptions, Merjane surprisingly sports addidas sneakers, eats French fries, and yearns to shave her legs. The movie provides an absorbing history lesson, showing us the close up ramifications of people's lives behind the headlines, and tells a captivating story about a girl trying to belong and survive under dire circumstances.

Until all the world changing events, Merjane lets us know, "I led a peaceful, uneventful life as a child." Within the family, Merjan's uncle is kindly, yet communist. He's probably seen enough dictatorships and knows of only one way out. His ordeal ... Read More

I have seen the BBC version and this version many times. Having just completed reading the book again yesterday, I wanted to watch this movie to cap it off. For all of the doubters, it truly is a wonderful portrayal of the characters, their over-the-top strengths and weaknesses, and incredible cinematography, which captures Elizabeth Bennett very well. In the book, Elizabeth is supposed to be only 20 years old, and Kiera Knightly brings an excellent zeal and youthfulness to the character, not found in the BBC version. The angst and lovesickness seen in Mr. Darcy is accurate to the writer's wishes, and the absurdity of Lydia, Mrs. Bennett and the girls is portrayed well. The director took a little license with Mr. Bennett's character, making him a little more caring and loving than the book portrays but it ... Read More

My husband and I were thrilled when we learned that this Hamlet had come out on DVD. We're big fans of Branagh's version of Henry the Fifth, and we thought that an uncut Hamlet with a Branagh who had, surely, been maturing as an actor since his great performance in the earlier film would be an occasion not to be missed.

It was a horrible disappointment. Branagh, the man who turned Henry the Fifth into a drama that ordinary people could watch as the gripping and complex historical drama that it is -- and who, rare among British-trained actors, actually spoke the part as though Henry were a man speaking to men -- does Hamlet largely as a Royal Academy rant with set piece rhythms and the sort of pentameter "recitation" that one gets from any college Shakespearean who knows the play as a cultural Sacred ... As the third season of Prison Break begins, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) finds himself back in prison, only this time it's a down and dirty prison in Panama ruled by the tyrannical Lechero (The Wire's Robert Wisdom). Also sharing space with Michael are T-Bag (Robert Knepper), Bellick (Wade Williams), and Mahone (William Fichtner); while Linc (Dominic Purcell) works on the outside to get his brother free at any cost, with the assistance of a mysterious associate (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) who has her own agenda. The third season of Prison Break manages to provide pretty much the same kinds of action, suspense, drama, and twists that fans of the series would come to expect by now; which adds up to this season being a success. However, falling victim to the writer's strike, the third season of Prison Break ends up ... Read More

My girlfriend and I looked forward to watching this movie. Premise sounded good.
BUT We both agreed that Eric Balfour looked hideous in his sleazy moustache! He is sexy but not in this movie even though we were treated to full frontal nudity of him! Always a treat when you can find an actor willing to bear it all.
So that is my complaint with the casting.Eric should have shaved the moustache. His character did nothing for us and we sure weren't interested in the females body parts.

There aren't many movies made today that portray true love. This movie is about more than romance. It's about self-sacrificing love. Agape.

2006: Given the time constraints of a movie, this version does not develop the characters very well which is the cornerstone of Janes' writing, the spoken word does not follow the book, the characters are not as mannerly as they are written in the book, major parts of the book are missing (ie., the Bingley sisters, many of the piano performances by Elizabeth are missing, some of the balls are not in this version), the English dialect is not constantly spoken. I given this version 3 stars.

1996: Given the luxious length, this version does develop the characters very well, is true to Janes' book, is stellar in the use of manners of the day, major parts of the book are not missing including the best part of the whole series which is Janes' performance at Penberly on the piano - she and Mr. Darcy actually ...
