This film is a brilliant documentary/concert depicting the Rolling Stones as still one of the most enduring popular music acts. The great thing about this film, besides being another fantastic effort from Martin Scorsese, probably the best music-documentary filmmaker of all time (he should have done the Chuck Berry 60th birthday gig)is that the viewer feels that they are part of the film and on stage with the Stones! This well constructed film follows the Stones, who are on tour, to a charity concert in New York. It's in an intimate theater setting which was specially designed for this movie. This has to be my favorite "music video" of all time. This is more David Lynchian than anything David Lynch has ever produced. It is such an odd episode in time, such a weird floating bubble of brilliance. It is a Festival of the Bizarre and the Hilarious. And, in my opinion, the music is superb. Approach this with the right expectations, and you will be dazzled!!! For starters, the colors are super-saturated, rich and deep reds and oranges and blues. It is a warm viewing experience. Every attendee is wearing a truly strange pull-over type robe with bright colors. Everyone is preternaturally happy and involved. This DVD is excellent. It's volume #3 in a series of 7, but is far superior to the others in the series. Michel Gondry is a very creative, extremely intelligent director, which is made clear in this DVD. My only problem with it is that everyone always wants to borrow it!

I just love this DVD! A lot of fans of this DVD are not happy that it focuses a lot on Jerome Bettis but I have no problem with that. I also like that a lot of time was spent on the Colts playoff game that was the highlight of the Steelers season. The fact that they didn't spend more than 17 minutes on the Superbowl didn't bother me either. If the DVD had shown any more it would have had to include some of those horrible officiating calls against the Seahawks and I don't want to be reminded of that. It would leave viewers wondering why Hines Ward won the MVP award instead of the officials. I prefer to believe we actually won the Superbowl instead of having it handed to us. Great DVD! Boring, poor performances that drag on and on, not the (solo) foot-stompin' tasteful guitar playing and singing I love from this man. Perhaps there is little video of his good stuff. These videos did not interest me in the least.

This is among the best of recent concert DVDs. It is a great tribute to the "Commonwealth Nations" contribution to classic rock. The Guess Who segment is awesome, though Burton's voice seemed to lack its former power. The Stones and AC/DC parts are simply a celebration of the best rock music anywhere. Timberlake is a damn joke. If this is re-released, get this dink off the program.
