The DVD cover hails it as a coming of age comedy, so I'll think of it that way. It addresses the concerns I seem to recall having as a teenager, it handles everything very well, and I laughed more than once. Yep, I can certainly see it being beloved by some teens.

I'm knocking on 50, folks. I saw some bits that were very effective, and some humor that worked quite well. It seemed a bit surreal at first, but that's explained to everyone's satisfaction plot-wise eventually. But my memory of my teen years was that they seemed surreal even as they were happening, no plot point necessary.

So yeah, a fine movie, and I'm not even in its demographic.

I must not have watched the same movie that others have. I found the movie laughable. Bad dialog, bad acting, and just plain silly. I have seen other versions of this story that are far better than this one. I have never thought much of DiCillio's acting abilities, and this movie only reinforces that opinion. Just awful. Waste of time.

I find it hard to believe that anyone could watch this movie and not be moved by this powerful story. The heartbreaking part of it being that it's based off true events. Brandon was clearly suffering from some identity issues and she had run into some close calls before hooking up with this group of *friends*. Hilary Swank definitely earned her Oscar with this production. Great movie.

This movie came on TV one day and it quickly became one of my favorites. I just had to buy the dvd so that I can watch it over and over for years to come.

The film starts good, but the ending is so corny and stupid I felt like a moron for even watching the entire thing.
The acting is ok, the script is ok, everything about this movie is just ok.
Right when you think it's about to get really good, it doesn't!!!
An ok movie, just boring and mediocre, and the ending just RUINS the entire film.
I felt totally ripped off by the time I turned it off.
Another Hollyweird stinkbomb!!!
AVOID!!!!!!!

This isn't the most captivating movie in the world, but it does have humor in it with a serious underlying message. It's a good movie to watch when you're tired, but not so good for real brain stimulation.

In 2000, director Wayne Wang changed his pace from studio-supported movies to make a low-budget film about sex and power. "The Center of the World" was his first digital film, shot alternately on a Digi Betacam and Mini DV. Most critics didn't like it, but it is a rare film that deals with sex as frankly as this one, an unflinching exploration of the costs and consequences of sexual power. And this is a sexy film. There is a lot of sexual game-playing in it. My only complaint is that the Mini DV used in so many of the intimate scenes and close-ups brings out too much detail and makes the actors look sallow. This was before the days of HD DV, so the quality leaves something to be desired.

Found this through Netflix and loved it, so I just had to own it. The cast is sterling! It's a unique blend of musical, mystery, comedy, and several other genres, and it's just twisted enough that it works! Don't expect a traditional narrative, but open you mind and enjoy this unique and wonderful film!

If you have only experienced Hayden Christensen's work in brain-dead blockbusters, be prepared for a surprise. The kid can act.

"Shattered Glass," while far from perfect, is utterly engrossing. Both the heartbreaking exploration of a young journalist's fall from grace and a larger exploration of the definition of honesty, the film maintains suspense throughout.

The cast is uniformly magnificent, but no one shines brighter than Mr. Christensen. Despite playing a socially inept pathological liar, he won my sympathy. The slow, sad unraveling of Stephen Glass' career is treated with gentle decency. In the years since Mr. Glass' transgressions against the truth there have been far more egregious examples of reporters gone wrong. It is doubtful that those who followed in his footsteps deserve the sympathy that ... Read More
