I saw "The Grudge" first and basically thought: Whatever!? Now I'm glad I gave the original a try. "Ju-On" is vastly superior to the remake and also much scarier. Usually the Asian horror movies are the ones that are puzzling to extremes. Here it's the other way around. "Ju-On" makes perfect sense, whereas the American remake couldn't possibly make less. And I better don't start speaking of "The Grudge 2". Ugh. You might want to check out "Ju-On 2" instead, which --- surprise --- comes up to the standard of this first installment.

Supervisor Takashi Ishii who has active career as cartoonist. He is splendidly expressing the world in Japan SM by an original taking a picture method and production. It is wonderful that lead actress's Aya Sgimoto endures hard bondage play. It is wonderful that the kimono that she wears is fantastic, and especially tightens all loincloths. The loincloth is a traditional undergarment of Japan that tightens the small of one's back by the complicated process by using the cloth of the cotton of six feet or more. It is an item often used by the SM play of Japan to see it curvaceously when the woman applies it though it is originally men's undergarments. The films premise is simple. 9 convicts escape a prison after the tenth one goes crazy and tells them where the treasure is. The first half has a lot of slapstick some of it very broad while the second half is a character driven descent into fantasy and melancholy. The two halves simply don't mix. Individual scenes do work very well (The guys crashing a friends house who has a new Filipino bride is hilarious While a later scene with the big guy working in the restaurant tugs at the heartstrings.)
