I saw this movie last year (2007), because my school did the play (which is fabulous). I was aware of the racism in the story at that time, but only knew it to be mild and shown in a negative light. I was horrified by what I saw in the movie. The adorable, sweet, funny Ching Ho and Bun Foo, are replaced by creepy, perverted, 'Orientals', who come from a Chinatown, that bares a resemblance to the Biblical image of Babylon. The Chinese are portrayed as rat-like vermin, and the actual images of Big Mary's Tart Shop, were horribly disturbing, showing the young women, whom Mrs. Meers (the strange, Chinese-effected owner of the Hotel Priscilla) has kidnapped, writhing in gags and cords, while they are packed into shipping crates, for the trip to the streets of Hong Kong.

Like watching a bunch of 4-year-olds throwing temper tantrums about early bedtimes. The main characters in this film spend their time either sulking petulantly or delivering semi-coherent, self-indulgent speeches.

The movie is nonetheless well-shot, with some superb scoring to Pachelbel's Canon. Indeed, the opening montage, in which scenery shots dissolve to the choir performing, is great. It also gives interesting insight into its era. But Ice Storm revisited that kind of material with less emoting, as did Stand By Me. If this movie had been cut by an hour, with the talking/whining elided, it could have been great.

What fun to relive this classic comedy...starting at the very first program. My 11-year-old son had never even heard of the series, but is enjoying the programs every bit as much as us!

Although Mary Tyler Moore is often thought of as a comedic actress I have found her dramatic roles show her true acting abilities. This is a remarkable miniseries. Sam Waterson's portrayal of Lincoln is scary - he is Lincoln.

This is an excellent and funny program done by Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. The skits are clever, very funny and certainly not our of date. I recommend t.v. programs as they were meant to be - entertaining and "clean".

Mel Coplin (Ben Stiller), the adopted son of two neurotic New Yorkers (Mary Tyler Moore and George Segal) feels that he can't name his new born baby until he finds his roots. This leads to him taking off on a cross-country road trip with his wife (Patricia Arquette), his baby and a woman from his adoption agency (Tea Leoni), which, as the title suggests, leads them from one comical disaster to another.

I have now seen all of David O. Russell's films, and of his four films (the other three being "Spanking the Monkey", "Three Kings" and "I Heart Huckabees"), "Flirting with Disaster" is the one that I had the hardest time making it through. It took me two attempts to make it to the end of this film, and the only reason why I kept going the second time was because I'm a completist and wanted to be able to say ... Read More

We are Disney fans and buy just about anything in print related to Disneyworld or Walt Disney. This book is a great read. My 11 year old son actually requested this book to do his final book project at school this year. They had to dress up and portray the person in the book, so my son slicked his hair back, donned a mustache and suit, and gave his presentation. Because the book was so full of information and facts new to my son, he was enthusiastic to share the information with his class. My husband is currently enjoying the book and I intend to read it when he is done. I recommend the book to any Walt Disney fan.

Boy, this movie takes place in the 80's and at first you must get over how dated it is. The clothes are hilarious but not as much as the big hairstyles. Hilarious. But move beyond the opening drawn out areobics class and a very entertaining weepy drama will draw you in.

Mary Tyler Moore, a housewife meets Christine Lahti, a newsreporter in an aerobics class and they form an instant bond both not having many female friends. Ms. Moore is happily married and lo and behold it ends up Ms. Lahti is having an affair with a married man who is Ms. Moore's husband.

How this drama plays out and how the plot develops is very well done and certainly character driven. The acting is superb all around but for me watching the movie 22 years after it was made I am most impressed with Mary Tyler Moore. If this situation ... Read More
