Bigger, Stronger, Faster is a well done, honestly written documentary that avoids the usual hyperbole involved in the steroid debate. It's balanced and personal and deals with real lives of people who you know and with whom you work and live. It stays away exclusive focus on steriod usage in the upper eschalon of athletes and bodybuilders. And the personal struggles and the willingness to do whatever at whatever risk to achieve a goal is both insightful as well as a bit chilling. I left watching this a little less clear about my opinion than I was before -- and that's a sign of a well done presentation.

I love this movie, however amazon's site says the blu ray release here is unrated. It's not. The box has it rated R. This is not the Director's Cut. Don't waste your money on this edited release.

I wish Amazon would add sub scales for PQ, AQ, overall movie and other criteria, so that, with the advent of Blu-Ray, technical as well as cinematic aspects would be rated separately. What if you love a film, but hate the transfer?

I had never seen all of Total Recall, and as a fan of older Sci-Fi and action films, I thought the effects were fun and advanced for the time period. Despite Arnold's mediocre acting skills, I am still a fan of his films, because they're so "over the top" and action packed. This film from the 90's was a cool "throwback" for me, and I enjoyed the sound and visual effects, as well as the story line of implanted memories, vicarious living etc. The storyline has often been mimicked by movies that followed in the next decade and for historical purposes and perspective ... Carrey plays a miserable, complaining nobody who gets incredible powers after he offers to swop places with God. Some of the scenes after this are terrific fun.

Morgan Freeman is God, and the weird thing is, he suits the role admirably!

Action movies are only as good as their villains. Heroics require really nasty bad guys.

Gene Hackman skillfully portrays an antagonist so mean you know he'd kill his own son. Sharon Stone, for the most part, credibly plays the protagonist, but her motivation for revenge seems filched from Harmonica in Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West.

The remaining cast of bad guys are cartoonish and the plot stretches credulity beyond the limits, but fine acting and a unique premise work to make this an engaging film.

It also fun to watch Leonardo Di Caprio and Russell Crowe in secondary roles before they could demand eight figure salaries per movie.

I frankly don't understand the bad reviews that the "Times" and others have given this riveting remake of the Mary Shelley classic. This is the first movie rendition of the story that comes anywhere close to the Shelley novel. True to form, the story begins and ends at the polar ice cap...as in the novel. The well-intentioned, albeit obssessed, Dr. F. is engaged to the beautiful Elizabeth. I won't give away the plot by expousing on their relationship, but where past grade-B efforts have had no female counterpart to Dr. F., this film version does; indeed, she is a prime motivator, residing at the very heart of what drives much of the story-line. There is some artistic license taken here of course, as with any great work of art. But actor/producer Kenneth Branagh (who plays the good doctor) has certainly earned the latitude. ... Read More

OK, let's take a 50-something, not-so-pretty lady. Let's make her a top crime unit detective. Let's make her drink, smoke, sleep with married men, and give hell to her male colleagues and superiors. Finally, let's make her the heroin of a TV series. OK, at that point you know you're not in the US anymore... And you're right. Welcome to the BBC and to one very real[istic] detective show. Helen Mirren is one a few actresses that could make you care about such an anti-hero character. And she does. Her uncompromising, in-your-face ways are primarily aimed at putting an end to the activities of very, very bad guys. And we do like her ways in that context. We are even prepared to take the emotional package that comes with them. The "Prime Suspect" series is neither suitable for kids, nor young or faint-of-heart adults. But it provides ... Read More
