Very enjoyable movie. Was reluctant at first to take the time to watch, but very happy I did. No vulgar language, no nudity (well, almost!), no violence, no car chases, and no anti-American theme. Just a movie with lovable characters, beautiful backdrop scenery, easy on the ear Irish/English conversational language, lots of laughs, and a surprise ending. What's not to like? Oh, and the movie has a great final scene song, The Parting Glass. First movie I have purchased in quantity and given as a gift to friends and family.

This is a story about a bunch of stupid losers, who have nothing at the center of their lives, so they became addicts, drunks, and thieves. What is amazing about it is how blackly funny they all are, as they dive into toilets, allow babies and friends to die, burst into violent rages, and seek some kind of fantastical out. The acting is so good that you can believe all of their chaotic lives that can go nowhere but down or prison. Will the narrator turn his life around with his latest scan and last chance? You assume so, but don't know.

Recommended. Cult classic. And that young Ian McGregor! First rate.

Roadhouse is one of those movies that everyone should take time out to watch. Patrick Swayze is great as Dalton, the philosphical but redoutable bouncer. Crusty Sam Elliott is great, as is beautiful Kelly Lynch as the small town doctor. And iconic actor Ben Gazzara gives one of his best performances as a sociopathic heel who has enough money to think he can run roughshod over the town's decent folks. With its simple, pared-down plot and the gorgeous stars populating its sets, Roadhouse sort of harkens back to the old Elvis Presely movies of the sixties, where the King would play an ordinary, but talented guy who was quick with his fists caught up in an escalating situation. Swayze shows the same type of charisma in this performance. Elvis's former bodyguard and best friend Red West even has a roll ... Read More

My boyfriend really wanted to rent this movie, but we could not find it anywhere-- so I went ahead and bought a copy here on amazon. I didn't know what to expect, my boyfriend was a 'flare' bar-tender while in college (he does those amazing stunts while making drinks).

Anyhoo. I can typically figure out the plot, the intended morals of the film- and most all the corporate sponsors of a film in about 15 mins of the start. This one was much more difficult-- it portrayed the way, I am sure many, 20-somethings feel when getting into the 'real world'. What to do with your life, how to get there. The lead character starts down one avenue, the military where we begin the movie. Then he goes to the big city imagining life at the top only to realize he will need some more education to get there. ... Read More

One gets addicted to drugs, for sure, but that is only a small part of the business. This film tries to show how the addiction is an attitude, a social behavior, an act of belonging to a group, a community, a social class nearly, but not that far away from it. Here the dependence is threefold. First the girlfriend who is determined to stay addicted because her addiction is moderate enough to be controlled. Then the boyfriend and his own girlfriend and this time there is some status question here and to go on is to belong to a certain level of humanity, a certain level of masculinity. And then there is the wider community of the junkies, dealers and other characters in that farcical, yes farcical, melodrama. Then there are various events that make that addiction stick. The solidarity with the girlfriend ... Read More

Charlie's Angels (2000) And they all grew up to be successful movie actresses and they made sure this series became one to make the jump to the Big Screen. It follows the successful blueprint of The Brady Bunch Movie: take the concept of the series and subvert it in some way. The filmmakers wisely clue the audience in right away, having one of the characters verbally deride a (fake) feature film called TJ Hooker-The Movie. With that sense of humor, this feature proceeds to have a grand old time poking fun at the semi-campy series it was derived from.
We follow Drew Barrymore (also one of the film's producers), Cameron Diaz (There's Something About Mary), and Lucy Liu (Payback) through a lot of fast paced action nonsense that takes satiric jabs at everything from Mission Impossible to the Matrix. ... Read More

I liked that this was a dark "thinker" type movie. I watched this movies with no expectations, because I've never heard of it before I saw it on TV.

I like this style of movie. The script wasn't the greatest but the acting was still ok.

I actually first saw this movie on lifetime and I love lifetime movies. They're so out there and if you like movies like that, you'll love this one. It was pretty shocking to think of teenagers acting like that but when you think about it, you never know what could happen. Especially in our time.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Great cast, great plot, great screenplay. Very funny, but not in the way other movies about marijuana are. Most "pot movies" are slapstick, but Home Grown is a true drama, with tasteful comedy thrown in for fun. I wish more film makers would make movies about subjects like marijuana, skateboarding, and snowboarding without having them resemble Dumb and Dumber.
