I did watch this AFTER watching the 1996 Gwyneth Paltrow version and do prefer this one.

I'm not a Kate Beckinsale fan, she does Emma well. She's more proper and more restrained than Paltrow. The scene that sticks in my mind most is her face after Knightley chews her out for being mean to Miss Bates.

I definitely preferred this George Knightley. Davies does a better job of showing Knightley as a person rather than a plot mover; it was far clearer that he was a responsible landowner, riding out to check on his workers and striking up a friendship with a tenant farmer like Robert Martin. He also feels older than Emma in this version, as it was in the book. Mark Strong, of course, is an excellent actor and does this character wonderfully.

While I have not seen all his movies, this makes me want to order more. I "get into" a movie if there chemistry between the characters. It did happen in this movie.

In his romantic comedies, John portrays a "dreamy" character. His work in this film just added to the magic.

This was a wonderful story, kept me interested to then end.

UNDERWORLD, a faced-paced, in your face, kick-a** monster movie, tries to answer that age old question. Vampires and Lycans (werewolves) have been at war for untold centuries. Very few even remember how the blood feud started. But the crossing of a Vamp with a Lycan has always been forbidden. Or has it?

UNDERWORLD is action-packed from the get go; you jump right in and it never lets up. Epic battles, high-speed chases, gun fights, impossible stunts, blood and gore (although less than you would think), and fantastic transformations keep you on the edge of your seat. The directing/cinematography/editing are excellent, cutting away from anything truly disgusting before you really see it; leaving the rest to your vivid imagination. The acting is impressive, with Kate Beckinsale, ... Read More

Nobody could say the storyline in Much Ado About Nothing is particularly clever. In fact, despite some very witty lyricism you would have to say this is one of Shakespeare's weakest plays. Having said that, this interpretation by Kenneth Branagh makes the most of the material. The comic characters are completely over-the-top (including Michael Keaton of Batman fame, and Ben Elton, creator of the Young Ones) and the more serious ones are given a slightly modern interpretation. The main plot which deals with the importance of virginity in a new bride, has a gently mocking modern treatment. The whole play is, as its name suggests, a storm in a teacup and Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thomson make the most of the sarcastic interplay available to them. Even the charming Denzel Washington manages not to stumble ... Read More

I really liked the way this movie was presented. It took alot of the horror out of the element and showed love and compassion in a 1000 times told story. Pearl Harbour is history. History can be embellished pretty easily, especially by Hollywood. Not to worry, you won't feel like this movie was fake. I think most people walk away seeing this time and time again. Fact this is my second copy (I think I loaned amy other one out and never got it returned!)

This really is the sort of film that inspires you to find out about the man behind the legendary film. This film is well crafted, well acted, well styled, beautifully shot and just plain well done. Scorsese freely admits to playing around with time lines, but to getting things "Emotionally" right, which I think is correct. The more you know about the lead topic, the less likely you are to be a nice in hindsight review ( Like I think Jude Law is abysmal as Errol Flynn since I am Tasmanian and Jude is as Tasmanian as Jack Daniels when playing Errol... he did not even try; Knowing a subject too well can be a handicap when viewing an artistic endeavour). Anyways, as a soaring, roaring emotional rollercoaster, the events such as the Flight with Cate and Leo in the plane is as passionate as anyone could hope to get. Its ... Read More

This is one of the most delightful movies my husband and I have watched in some time. Kate Beckinsale excels as a near penniless society girl, who has lost her parents and has to choose among several eccentric relatives, with whom to live. She hates things "untidy", and makes it her mission to try to re-do the lives of persons, who in her opinion, need made over. The family of relatives she chooses, their antics, and her attempts at "fixing" their lives is hilarious. This is a must see movie, and if you are concerned about language, there is only one bad word that I noticed, but you might want to hide the children's eyes from one adult situation. Over all a five out of five for us!! We have already watched it at least five times!! Loved it!!
