The movie is extraordinary. I hate the Blue-ray version of the movie! Save your money... vhs or dvd better represent the original. The Blue-ray version has been butchered! Black and white movies colorized is off my list also... And would someone please tell me how to start the movie without the previews and introductions? I have no interest in the opinions of others about the movie prior to watching the movie. And forcing me to watch previews of other movies are best left to copies from Blockbuster or the theater. $2000 for a new tv, new cable box, new receiver, new Blue-ray player and it sucks! And $20+ for the Blue-ray. Fox should pay me to watch the previews. The DVD version stays and the new Blue-ray version is to be listed on eBay later tonight.

Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines is the British version of The Magnificent Race but it's more like a ripoff. The film uses the real life 1910 event as the basis for the movie but there aren't any similarities beyond that. It's directed & co-written by Ken Annakin, I have yet to find a reason to recommend anything in his name.

The film has a large pool of stars but almost all of them are B-list entities. The story centers on Orvil Newton (Stuart Whitman),an American from the wild West, who enters the contest. Patricia Rawnsley (Sarah Miles) is the female lead & is the daughter of Lord Rawnsley (Robert Morley) who is the publisher of a newspaper & the one who offers 10,000 pounds to the winner of the London to Paris air race. Richard Mays (James Fox), a ... Read More

A great World War 1 classic aviation movie. The aerial combat footage, done without any computer virtual reality animation is quite spectacular. The acting, especially from the european cast was quite good.

I bought this on tape because of the actors and story line. I am not a critic on all the technical aspects of film making so I judge a movie on entertainment value. This one I found very enjoyable. The time period is approx. 1915-1918 and the war in Africa between the British and Germans. It has some very funny parts with the drunk Marvin and gullable Moore. The love interest adds just the right touch and unlike some reveiwers I think was needed to spice up the plot. It even has some flying for aviation buffs and a battleship for the navy fans. I found it fast enough paced to hold my attention from start to the grand climax. For an enjoyable evening without trying to disect the movie in all aspects it's a fun movie.

"How I Won the War," starring Michael Crawford and John Lennon, was a strange movie that I enjoyed watching over and over again as a teenager, desperately trying to understand exactly what the heck was going on at any given time. Now that I'm older and wiser, I still have no idea! However, this quirky British dark comedy will force you to laugh for reasons you may or may not understand. It's just crazy. One of my goals in life is to become enlightened and understand this movie before I die (which hopefully won't ruin it).
