If you've never seen this film, you're in for a mind-blowing experience in the way of acting, direction, cinematography and script writing. This is the film that finally unhooked Judy Garland from the Rainbow, if you know what I mean. It requires multiple viewings to really appreciate. Try to reserve 3 hours without interuption if you can.

My one star is more for what I've been through with this title, which looks to be another great set from Warners - not that I'd actually be able to tell you from being unable to look inside! I purchased this item recently - along with the Classic Comedies (Briging Up Baby, Philadelphia Story, etc) and Classic Musicals (Easter Parade, The Band Wagon, etc) box sets as Amazon listed them at a third off and I'd had them on my wish list for a long time. All three sets turned up in very poorly packaged conditions, but the Classic Comedies was a passable acceptance (I wouldn't have taken one home from a store in the condition it was in, but there you go). This film is a joy from start to finish and, as has been mentioned elsewhere, the colour and sound reproduction on the DVD are excellent. On this `special edition' there is also an interesting extra in the making of documentary - Easter Parade: On the Avenue - in which you get to learn interesting little snippets such as the fact that Anne Miller had to dance her numbers in a surgical corset due to the fact that, shortly prior to shooting the film, her husband had pushed her down the stairs and broken her back! Also, some might not have known that, but for a similar, though not quite so severe injury, Gene Kelly might have been playing the lead. A collection of mostly obscure(to me) movies, most of which are good quality, and quite entertaining. All are musicals, and some feature artists who were just starting out back then. A good number of the movies are black and white, but oddly , this does not diminish the enjoyment. A lot of bang for the buck!

While this was a shot in the dark, it proved to be a good one. I read the reviews first which proved very helpful and so far watched 2 movies from the pack. I suspect I will get through them all this winter. The quality is as expected with the older ones..a tad grainy and fuzzy but that's what makes old movies fun. I get the feeling I am there in the time without all the high gloss of today's grand "events". For the great price I was able to buy several films I wanted in my collection plus at least 30 others I never herad of! If some are not stellar, so what? You can't go wrong with this collection if you see at least 2 movies you want in the pack.

Oh! How I loved these Movies from the past. We (that is my generation) were so lucky to be born when we were, as we had only the best in Movies, I feel sorry for this generation, that they have missed out. It is not too late for them, as they can purchase them from AMAZON.com Thank you Amazon for all the great Movies you have on offer. Jane Powell what a very sweet person she was, and Eleanor Powell was the greatest Tap Dancer, and a very nice person in Real life. I wish they were made for Region 4. There are many famous "One Liners", but this is one of the best. I was delighted when the movie is extended to get the full flavor of the film. I have viewed this movie and each time, I get more into the film. Forget the problems that plagued the production of the movie, or personal problems that Ms Garland had, but give praise to the movie stars, Judy Garland, James Mason, Charles Bickford, and Jack Carson. Charles Bickford was memorable in his role as the studio owner, who knew Norman Maine as no other person could. What a friend!! How many of us have friends who would stand beside us as strongly in life and death? The dynamics between Garland and Mason is for me electric.
