Wow !!! What a wonderful transfer either for image and sound ! watched on Plasma screen (with HDMI connexion) and through Dolby Digital 7.1 ("Adventure" YAMAHA DSP type), it's impressive!Of course I knew this movie in Cinerama Theater (EMPIRE HALL in PARIS). Congratulations for "3 screen" separate lines treatment which make possible a domestic watch in good conditions. the original version was interesting in Cinerama theater but a torture on a domestic screen! The "Cinerama adventure" bonus includes very persuasive highlights of the "smile-box" version available only in Blue-Ray edition. I don't have Blue-Ray player yet but after seeing that, I think about !!!

This Midway DVD is fabulous. The sound is awesome, the cast is exceptional, and it is historically correct. As a Navy wife, I loved it as much as Walking Through Fire, An Iwo Jima Survivor's Remembrance

THE LONGEST DAY is one of the last great spectacle films produced during the era of Darryl Zanuck's reign at 20th Century-Fox. This startling new BLURAY version stunts and makes obsolete all previous editions! The film never looked or sounded better.Interesting and informative commentary by historian Mary Corey is screen specific and almost 100% continuous.A treat to finally see it this way! "Saving Private Ryan" (35 years more modern, technology-wise) has it's MOMENTS, but this film is more satisfying and engaging overall from top to bottom, for sure.

With endless comprehensive reviews of "The Grapes of Wrath" available on Amazon and no reason to speculate about whether the film or the book is superior (different mediums, different strengths), it is worth noting the following about this DVD:

- the print of the film has been restored from the best available sources and is very good. The restoration comparison really demonstrates how much clearer the picture is, restoring much of the skilled lighting and preserving the deep focus photography
- the commentary is very helpful because it provides the historical context of the story as well as information about the courage of Darryl F Zanuck to produce a box office hit of almost documentary content.
- the newsreels are particularly cogent. We see people whose story the film tells.

OK.
There's nothing wrong with the Waltons. Sure they tended to get a little sappy. You could say the same for "Spencer's Mountain," but you'd be wrong.
Watching Henry Fonda and Maureen Ohara, you get the impression this is the family you wish you could have grown up in.
When grandma tells Clay-Boy "Aim for the stars," if you have dry eyes, it's because you either haven't paid attention or you don't have a heart.
This is a truly great movie.

This movie is an evergreen that everyone would love to have in their video library. It's the last of Henry Fonda's films; and coupled with his daughter and with Katherine Hepburn, this film displays the richness of a good story portrayed by excellent actors! If you can watch it without an occasional tear, you need to relax!!!

This 1957 film is so educational to the average person about how complex capital court cases can be, and they must be as someone's very right to live is often hanging in the balance. Everyone chosen to sit on a jury brings his entire life-history and prejudices and bias to that theatre. If the accused reminds him of someone from his past, or someone's facial features dredge up unpleasant thoughts, well it can cinch a wrong verdict. Even another great Henry Fonda movie--The Wrong Man--serves to show us that what looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck may be a duck, but it may not be the RIGHT duck. This movie about the one hold-out on the jury (Fonda) reaps the wrath of the fellow jury members who want to get on with their lives--an almost unbearable influence. It is played so well by all the players, ... Read More
