This film is very close to the nerve centers of practically all Marines because it so very realistically depicts their experiences in either boot camp and/or Vietnam. There isn't one that didn't feel a mysterious tingle in the back of his neck and a shiver down his spine when he first heard Lee Ermy calling cadence in the boot camp segment of the movie. Nuf said about the film except to say that the video and audio transfer to blu-ray is outstanding. The anamorphic treatment that allows it to fit 16X9 TVs is excellent. Makes it seem even more realistic. Buy It.

This is a true masterpiece, a work of art, and the best war movie I have ever seen. It's not a "Hollywood" war film with a happy ending. It actually shows the reality of war, and more importantly, conveys the message that war is hell. Not to say that there aren't some good combat scenes, because there were. But the point of the movie was to show the true impact of war. And they did that so well, in part of the excellent acting by Vincent D'Onofrio, and in part of the script in general. Almost anyone who can handle the very emotional, disturbing content of this movie should definitely watch this.

Hey, if DaVinci put it into a painting, and Ron Howard sells it in a movie with lots of pseudo scholarly verbiage and ominous sounding music, then it must be true, right? Oh, puhleeze. Religion aside, as someone who has studied Biblical history and archaeology for years, this is too sad a piece of work to be taken seriously as any kind of scholarship. As one who used to not believe in Yahusha, aka Jesus Christ, I can see how this would lead many of the naive into more and more Hollywood sloppy-think. Still I gotta wonder, how many people who know anything about the Messiah really think His true followers would be having weird sex rituals complete with satanic looking garb? (Uh, could that scene be a good hint as to where this story is reeeally coming from? Just a thought, now!) Gimme a break! ... Read More

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED, I would not have ordered if I had known it was not the original movie. Parts were missing that I wanted to see & hear. I had planned on a presentation using the song "You've go to be carefully taught." Also the "Happy Talk" was not in this movie at all.

Arrived in "as new" shape, just as advertised by the seller. No gripes there. But, this version had been stripped of a particularly steamy scene (viewed in a previously rented DVD) which is one of the reasons that I had ordered a copy for myself. There was no indication that the DVD had been edited to remove scene(s).

Other than that, this is a particularly riveting story about family dynamics, including a sexually repressed senior family member who is widowed and who longs for male affection, thus upsetting the rest of the family. I recommend the movie, though I would recommend the full version even more, that is, if you are not easily "squeamed" by overt sexual performance.
