I have seen two versions of this Jane Austen novel. I find the choice of actors much better in this version.

After all the westerns ever made, you'd think that they'd run out of good ideas after a while. But "Broken Trail" proves that there is still life, and fresh blood, to be seen in THE American film genre. The three-hour film finds an uncle and nephew running a herd of horses to Wyoming, and unexpectedly become guardians of five Oriental women meant to become prostitutes. The journey that they all take together is a truly fascinating one, which has never been covered in this genre before.
While the storytelling and cinematography are great, the two highlights are the casting and the music. Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church are fantastic as the two male leads, and well-deserved the Emmys they won for their roles. The strong supporting cast, of which there are too many to name here, do ... Read More

I vaguely recall seeing snippets of the television series of "Brideshead Revisited" a number of years ago. I never really liked it. I have also never read the book by Evelyn Waugh. I was thus less than enthusiastic in going to see this film. Regardless, to my great surprise, I found the film to be totally enthralling.

Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode) travels from London to Oxford where is enrolled to study history. He immediately comes within the orbit of Sebastian Flight (Ben Whishaw), a very gay dilettante. Although Ryder gives no real clue to being gay, he enjoys the company of Flight. They become close friends. As part of this process, Ryder goes with Flight to the vast family estate, Brideshead, where he meets the very Catholic Flight family. Ryder is an atheist but comes to be more ... Read More

I personally was let down when watching the 4 part installment of this movie.
Don't get me wrong - the acting is wonderful, the costume amazing, and the storyline had promise........ but it seems as if it just ended kind of cheezy and abruptly.

My Complaints:
*I didn't care for the amount of time spent in Duronda searching/delving/debating his Jewish past....it became dragged out and almost too religous.
*I like Jodhi May - but her expressions when she is upset are unattractively distracting (kind of a snarl flared nostril thing)
*Barbara Hershey portraying a Spanish Contessa who is English/Jewish (??) that's when I threw in the hat..... she was terribly chosen for that part and it just seemed from there on out, the film was in a hurry to climax and end.
Of course ... Read More

The beginning of 90's was full of court dramas and murder thrillers. This is a very good combination of both, which means it will attract the fans of both genres. A very good movie with a surprise ending. One of the best movies of both Harrison Ford and the legendary Alan J. Pakula. Deputy Prosecutor Rusty Sabich (Ford) is assigned to investigate the murder of a woman he had an affair with. All evidences are against him. Framed Sabich is desperate to reveal the real killer...so are the viewers! But believe me the ending will surpass all your expectations and anticipations. Charming Scacchi and the beautifully shot love scenes add so much to the film. Do not hurry to presume...

I have been a masterpiece / mystery theater fan for years, and find the Miss Marple series with Geraldine McEwan to be top notch. Excellent actors, sumptious costumes, and beautiful settings make for extremely entertaining viewing. Geraldine McEwan is marvelous, and is much better than Joan Hicks ever was! A perfectly lovely voice accompanies the very intelligent eyes!
