The transfer of this film appears to be the same MPEG transfer as the one used for the DVD version. It DOES NOT appear to be a new 1080p 4k re-mastering of the film. This is not to say that it doesn't look much better in Blu-Ray than it does on DVD. But it is not, evidently, a brand new 1080p 4k transfer made expressly for Blu-Ray release. This can cause some problems, depending on your display system and settings. You may have to select a different input palette or profile on your display, or adjust your settings.

If your system is setup to show Blu-Ray films using the "Cinema" and "Movie" profile of your display, which assumes a low contrast, subdued display of a wide range source that takes full advantage of the display's capabilities, then this film may look washed out, have ... Read More

When Gene Hackman is in a sports movie, it's impossible to see him as anyone other than coach Norman Dale from Hoosiers. Unfortunately, Keanu Reeves is more Shooter than he is Jimmy Chitwood. Nonetheless, this travesty of a sports movie was given the nod, and the rest is history.

The setup for the movie is stolen straight from Major League. A pro team has no players, but this time it's a strike instead of an insane owner. A wily, unknown coach is hired to build a team. A motley crew of assorted clichés is soon picked up.

Once again Coach Hackman amazes with his complete lack of coaching ability, as he insists on picking up a former college QB with a rag-arm to lead his team. Surely there were countless other guys in the Arena league or in the CFL who would have loved ... Read More

True...it is a well known fact that, those who know of Wes Anderson, know that he is an "either-or" film maker. Plainly stated, you either love his work, or hate it. It is also known that Mr. Anderson's view of comedy is VERY dry...almost sarcastic and very realistic. (I mean, lets face it, there aren't that many Will Ferrels in everyday life) AND his use of this "stellar cast" in the film is almost a satire. He has the chance to use each talented member of the cast to the fullest, but chooses not to...almost to see how "realistic" each person can be...and how convincing each is to there own characters role...

So, all of the above in consideration...(and strictly in my opinion) I believe this is one of the single most entertaining films I have ever seen. Further more...I will even go as far ... Read More

As far as grandiose Westerns go, this is about my favorite - along with McCabe and Mrs. Miller. It's a story of two old retired gunfighters, long reformed in their ways, stepping back into the ring for one last hurrah of badness - assassination for hire. The movie builds tension wonderfully, creates a magical vibe of reality (minus the rather cheesy acting of the young guy who plays the "Scofield Kid"), is full of flesh-and-blood, fallible characters with whom you can empathize and whom you can hate - or be sickened by, or root for... And best of all this movie has QUITE the payoff. It WORKS. Mostly Hollywood stinks. Not here. And frankly, Clint Eastwood rocks. He plays his part to the T.

Okay, two more little criticisms:

1) The scene where Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood discuss ... Read More

It's ironic, but 'Antz' may be remembered as the last great Woody Allen comedy. Like Robin Williams in 'Alladin', Z's dialog is so quintessentially Woody Allen that it's hard to believe he didn't write or ad-lib some of it. It's also a damn sight funnier than anything Woody has made himself since I can't remember when, or anything Dreamworks made, up til 'Over the Hedge'.

Some of Z's lines to the ant psychiatrist in the opening scene alone are priceless. The world might be slightly tired of Allen playing the whiny, neurotic wimp, but in 'Antz' the character who, back in 1967, tried to hold up a bank with a stick-up note which nobody could read ("I have a Gub?") is absolutely perfect.

What's more, Allen is cast alongside Sylvester Stallone (who, incidentally, was voted worst actor of the century in ... Read More

When I first saw Twilight in 1998 I knew I was watching a valuable classic. We need a few more like Twilight these days to add intelligence that recent movies with action and adventure lack. We need less high-tech-special-affects and more intriguing dialogue which includes humor, wit and wisdom that Twilight provides in abundance.
Listing the cast only was enough for me to go see the film : Paul Newman,
Gene Hackman, Susan Sarandon, James Garner, Stockard Channing, and with a
supporting cast of not-so-well-known actors who add to Twilight's appeal.
Among them (is/was) the late John Spencer, best known as the president's
secretary or chief aid in the TV series West End. Also, Reese Witherspoon
got an opportunity in this film playing the prodigal daughter of
Hackman/Sarandon. There are ... Read More

great, enjoyable movie. beautiful soundtrack. just wish r. donner had done more with the man of steel just like g. reeves. foiling a bank robbery, bending steel bars, jumping out of a window, fight scenes with the bad guys. the scene when the bullets bounced off superman in the tunnel should have been left in the theatrical version. it's the 30th anniversary of the 1978 movie. i'm sure WB will re-release an expanded edition with all the deleted scenes that were never shown. i have VHS copies of the TV version off from ABC TV from 1980. lots of nice scenes to see. enjoy.****
