This is without a doubt one of the top five movies of all time. The acting is superb and the movie keeps you interested through out. Gary Cooper is brilliant, but the actress who plays Mother York, Margaret Wycherly, steals the show. I have seen this movie several times in my lifetime and I become deeply engrossed everytime I watch it. This is one of the best bargains ($10.99) you will ever find for a DVD. The second DVD, Sergeant York: An American Hero is also outstanding as well. This is definitely a must see movie. They definitely don't make movies like tis one in this day and age.

Eric O'Neill (Ryan Phillippe), a young FBI employee who is desperate to become an agent, is assigned to spy on Robert Hanssen (Chris Cooper), a top FBI agent, family man and devout Catholic, who also happens to have been selling government secrets to the Russians for the past 16 years.

"Breach" is writer/director Billy Ray's second film as director and touches on many of the same themes as his first film, "Shattered Glass" (about fabulist Stephen Glass). Both films are based on the true stories of men whose whole lives were based on falsehoods and both films deal with the downfall and resulting implications of their demise for these men and those around them. Being a huge fan of "Shattered Glass", it came as no surprise to me that I also liked "Breach". In a way, the strong similarities ... Read More

Here you have them--Five Gary Cooper Classics in one package. Of this group, I like Sergeant York and the Wreck of the Mary Deare the best. They are all great movies, that you may think you have not seen, but when you get into them, you may realize you have. They are part of being an American. Sergeant York--the biography of a WWI soldier and his heroism. Dallas--not so much about the city, at this point in time a hitching post and a watering hole, but about by products of the Civil War, The Fountainhead--a story about a great American architect, artistically incorruptable, based loosely on Frank Lloyd Wright, The Wreck of the Mary Deare--Gary finds himeself in the abandoned hulk of a ship, and is drawn into mystery and intrigue, and The Springfield Rifle--Gary goes through the humiliation of having ... I have always loved Gary Cooper and this is my favorite movie of all he made. It is heart warming and a joy to watch over and over. I ordered it for my mom's 88th birthday and she loves it now too. Thanks for having it.

Nowadays, the Western is almost a dead genre, a far cry from the days in which it dominated the movies. Of course, even in its heyday, it had various stages. Earlier Westerns tended to focus on adventure, with cowboys and Indians and bank robbers. Around the 1950s, a new subgenre began to appear, the so-called Adult Western. These Westerns tended to focus more on character and less on action. The Fox Western Classics features three such movies.

The Gunfighter is considered to be one of the first Adult Westerns, with Gregory Peck has the title character. He is a man considered the best gunfighter of his era, a title that he is forced to defend. He takes refuge in the town of Cayenne, where an old friend is marshal and his estranged wife is living under another name with their son. Even here, however, ... Read More

To say the least, Charlie Kaufman's "Adaptation" is the most original movie I've ever seen. It is at once an adaptation of Susan Orlean's book The Orchid Thief, a bio pic, a reflection on Kaufman's (played by Cage) many tries at writing said adaptation, and a dissection of film conventions. The busy narrative, which shifts back and forth in time, calls for the full attention of the audience. It's an engaging film that will keep the wheels turning in your head long after the final credits roll.

Spike Jonze does beautiful work with Kaufman's considerably hard to film script, showing deep understanding of the script. Nicholas Cage gives a career defining performance as both Charlie and Doug Kaufman (Charlie's fictional brother), evoking more emotions than I thought the man was capable of. Meryl Streep is great here as well, ... Read More

This is a Christmas gift I ordered, I received the DVD in excellent condition. It is about individualism. Gary Cooper is an architecture who has his own ideas on how a building should be built and won't change his belief no matter what.

How many editions are there going to be? They have special editions, ultimate, anniversary, etc. Instead of coming out with the same movie over and over again, how about putting some more classics out there. The African Queen, Cavalcade, Samson and Delilah and The Uninvited, to name just 4, still aren't on DVD yet!
